Brake failure led to fire truck crash

Fire chief Steve Andrews confirmed last week that Engine 1 is a total loss after a rollover crash in Milner May 27. “It was totally destroyed. I don’t think there is a piece of metal on it that was not bent.

Perhaps the brake failure was related to a manufacturer's defect, or some cause at least partly recoverable from the manufacturer. If so, the manufacturer will sometimes step in and cut a check.

I once had a cooling fan blade go through the hood of a car. I called the manufacturer, and they said they had a defect in fasteners, and paid for a new radiator, hood, and all the labor with no arguments at all.

A call to the manufacturer whose part caused the failure problem might save the county a little money.

Regarding dealing with the insurance company:

“I’m sure dealing with that will be a nightmare,” the chief concluded.

Ha, good one, Chief Andrews. I bet you're right.
