The Sagon RV operation in Van Mar Park off Hwy. 36 near I-75 in Lamar County joined Carter’s in announcing a business closing today.

Yea. I'd go buy one of those motor homes to live in if I could sell my house.

Nearly all of my family and friends have bought RVs in the last 60 days because the deals are so good. We've had no problems obtaining financing (even with some being somewhat challenged), this sounds like a cop-out. Financing is definitely out there.

I own large RV dealerships in Texas and New Mexico. Sagon RV has been a well known, family owned, RV dealership for years. It is never good to see someone you know go out of business and I'm sure they have several fine employees that are loosing their jobs.
The fact is, financing is much more difficult to obtain today than it was twelve months ago. Our national lenders for both retail financing and wholesale inventory financing have changed their underwriting criteria substancially. I'm not saying we don't need to rework the programs or do a little market cleansing from time to time. I am saying that some people that could qualify for a loan on a travel trailer or motorhome a year ago cannot qualify today. Our lenders are very tight on their buying. Local banks my be an alternative, but my not offer favorable terms.
The RV industry has experienced extreme decreases in sales during the past 15 months. It is very difficult for any business that has to manage expensive inventories to cut back quickly. Our industry has experienced a 50% decline in sales of motorhomes and 20+% decline in towables from 2007 to 2008. We experiencd an additional 30% decline in 2009 to 2008, monthly comparison. Elkhart County, Indiana has a 18% unemployment rate. 50% of the employees that build RVs in that county have lost their jobs.
Industry manufactures, dealers, and employees didn't do anything wrong. They have been building, selling, and servicing RVs so families can escape the fast paced lifestyle and build lasting memories and good values.
Please have a little compassion for what these families are going through. Thanks!

I.m sorry to here of any business closing its doors. But, can a good deal be made there for a motor home. I'm getting close to retirement an a motor home was in the plans for the near future. I don't want to look like I'm trying to take advantage of a situation but this might be a time to buy rather than a few years from now. I'm motorhome stupid so maybe the owner can pass on some advice for me here to make the hours drive.

I have worked for for all five years that Sagon RV has been in the Jackson, GA location. We were all saddened to hear of our closing. We have become like a family over the years and the guests who came into the dealership were an extension of that family. We gave it our all, now we can only and pray for a window to open now that the doors have closed.

I worked for Sagon from 1996 to 2006,I did all their panting,body work,estimating,all different types of rv,'s and campers!front/rear caps-fiberglass repairs and replacements!
In 2004,they moved from Jonesboro,Ga.to Jackson,Ga. Sometimes "change" will catch up with you,especially when one of your most loyal employees{hung in there with ya,good/bad times} quit taking what your dishing out!!!
Try it again,with- a -little more compassion??
