Isa, I would love to talk to you. I know that I personally can't go but I would love to raise awareness of your efforts and your debriefing (after the event) to share with other Lamar countians.
I agree that this is an important time for our nation and that it may be a bit too soon to be rallying for anti-taxing scenarios I do think it is important to show our disgust with deficit and big government shenanigans.
Please email me at drew@barnesville.com or call the office.
I went to Griffin this evening in order to participate in their tea party. I will post some pictures very soon.
I have to say it was a surprising turnout; about 85 concerned citizens. I thought it was a great beginning to let the government know where we, the people, stand.

Warner Robins Tea Party
April 15, 3-7pm
700 Watson Boulevard (In front of the Warner Robins Civic Center and Municipal Complex)
Live broadcast of the Jeff Scott Show 3-6pm, followed by a panel of speakers including Virginia Galloway from Americans for Prosperity and Senator Cecil Staton
Ya'll come. It's 55 miles. Take 75 South to the Warner Robins - Centervill Exit. Go left down Watson about 7 miles and Civic Center on the right.
What are you getting Louie--$14.00 a week from this pkg-so Uncle Sam can get more taxes out of you next year? More people losing there jobs because of the pkg from the democrats and people are scared to death of having enough food to feed their families?
"The tea parties don't represent a spontaneous outpouring of public sentiment. They're AstroTurf (fake grass roots) events, manufactured by the usual suspects," liberal economist and Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman said Monday.
The Obama administration "has no credible opposition, especially on economic policy, where the Republicans seem particularly clueless," Krugman charged.
Let's see, where did I hear the astroturf phrase, oh yeah, it was from Nancy Pelosi. She shares no values with anyone from Lamar County. Since you're quoting her, I suppose she has your blind support. If you have children, how do you feel about dumping 12 Trillion dollars in debt on them? Every man, woman and child is in debt for over $35,000 just from the stimulus bill. This was a grass root effort. Over 600 big government spending protests nationwide. It doesn't get much more grass roots than that. Also know that these protests weren't directed at President Obama or the Democrats. It was directed to all politicians who want to bankrupt this country and change our form of government from what our Founding Fathers had intended. If none of this bothers you, then you probably don't pay taxes anyway.
Republicans have become embarrassing to watch. And it doesn't feel right to make fun of crazy people. Better, perhaps, to focus on the real policy debates, which are all among Democrats.
The tea parties are funded by typical Republican billionaires and promoted by Fox News.
It's good to see that everyone can rally around a cause that is complete crap. How is this instead of meeting and complaining about the new administration, Why don't you call your congressman and senator and ask what they are voting on on and if they put in pork projects tell them to stop. I do love how it is some how the president that is adding all of the pork and everything.
Just remember there is nothing he can really do until our power hungry representative give the president a line item veto. But we all know that no rep be it republican or democrat will ever vote to do that. So everyone continue to get all of your information from "flippity flop Shaun Hanity" and keep doing nothing.
If we all ignore politics even at the local level then we reap only what we sew. We cannot expect a few thousand people to miraculously wake up the executive branch. We have to begin participation and dialogue at a much smaller leve.
Yesterday in Griffin, 2 representatives and the mayor were in attendance. I was able to speak directly to both representatives and both welcomed me to speak with them further at any time. Granted they are not my representatives I am sure such open door policy would be available to our Lamar Co. reps.
Are you talking to me 'Louie'? If so, I spoke with Representative Yates. I told him that efforts like these seemed so minimal. He said, "It's good that people wake up the politicians and remind them that we, as Americans, revolted once and we can certainly do it again."
He did say that we aren't participating enough in local politics and "breeding" committed politicians and are instead spending 99% of our time, effort, and energy on the executive branch.
He did feel strongly (as did the mayor) that these sorts of peaceful, public displays were necessary and were important at all levels.
For those who have been perceptive enough to recognize what has happened in Washington with the financial crisis is the beginning of the end of how many things are in the US today. Anybody who has spent some time in Europe understands that opportunity is not as prevalent there and that taxes are one the reasons why. This is where we are headed. I do not see any mechanism to turn around what has already happened. The US has over extended and the financial base that supported such ventures is collapsing. The American dream is not turning into a nightmare but will not be as prosperous as it once was. This is not due to our government as much as the opportunity of Americans to earn income. Business has gotten so predatorily and there are many others somewhere else in the world that are willing to do it faster, cheaper and many times better. Taxes are going up because the tax base is going down and we all know government does not shrink as fast as it swells. Be prepared to adjust to a different way of life because it will be upon us over night
Given we have a 2 party system ( the Socialist and the almost Socialist), how do we make changes!!!
Ignore party line and stick to the issues!!!!

Good turn-out in Warner Robins. Good behavior too. I didn't see the first right wing terrorist or anyone that appeared to be on the watch list. I do think all of this should get the attention of our political leaders. It's a start. Let's hope it continues or it will all be for nil.
Gary M.
I hope this isnt an astro turf expedition. I hope it grows the roots that it should have, and continues until a move is made by politicians, to make a real change in tax laws, government income, and government expendatures. We all have to have a balanced budget at our homes in order to exist financially. We have allowed our Government since WWII, to live on deficit spending, without demanding they control their spending. Further I feel all lobbying should be done on an isolated island in the Pacific somewhere that the only access is by tramp steamer, and Participants names be made public.
#10 - "Astroturf" - Are you related to Nancy Pelosi? Have you checked her ratings lately? (down, down, down)
#11 You are totally wrong. Fox did cover the tea parties, but DID NOT sponsor them. Why do you put FOX down so much, their ratings are so much higher than the other cable news networks, so somebody must be listening. Maybe you just don't hear what you want to hear, like truth.
#12 Sean Hannity gets to you, huh? At least he is not a yes man and will speak his mind.
SOLO - did you know there were some Dems. there who voted for Obama? Your devotion to a man who has done literally nothing in his lifetime amazes me. I do give him credit for his support of ACORN - you remember the group who registered so many people over and over again?
I think every American has the right to voice their opinion without being belittled by the news media and the more Pelosi opens her mouth, I think she is lowering herself in the opinion of a lot of Americans. Why does Obama pick the type of cabinet members that he has? He certainly has not raised the confidence of a lot of Americans with his choices.
16, I never mentioned party lines, Shaun speaks his mind on what ever will give him the highest ratings that day. I remember the day before super tuesday all he did was tell people not to vote for McCain that he was bad for american and was practically a democrat. Then the day after super tuesday he completely changed his tune to say McCain was the best candidate for the job and that everyone should support him. I guess you didn't hear that cause sheep only listen to commands.
You want less pork, get a line item veto for the president, then and only then can you complain about pork spending. And name a republican who is willing to give a dem president the power for a line item veto, Yeah I didn't think you could come up with one. Oh yeah and don't forget when Clinton was in office we had a balanced budget and less taxes, foreign countries liked us, and life was good. Have fun with that.
I went to the Atl tea party Wed night. It was louder than the Braves game. Before Hannity came on live, they had guest speakers firing up the crowd...chanting and cheering. There were thousands upon thousands of people there. I had no idea that many people would be there.
What I see in the blog is misplaced anger. Folks seem to be upset with government when it should be with the nature of business in today’s times. Some how cooperate America has acquired the same rights, if not more, than the US citizen. Business is just a mechanism to acquire income and nothing more, yet we let it control or lives as if it is some breathing thinking God. We give it the right to determine life and death with our insurance provider. We give it the right to take away all that we worked so hard to acquire even though we committed to it a degree of dedication it never deserved. The US citizen has been reduced in value to where it is only a mere resource.
It’s interesting that we blame government for all the ill wills that corporate America has inflected upon us. Government is there to set the tone for the employer/employee relationship yet we blame government for the required intervention to set this connection back on the right track. This bailout is the result of cooperate greed which has run a muck to the point that our economy would have gone in a fatal tailspin.
The all mighty US dollar is the monetary system that runs the world and with that comes immense financial leverage. If this were to change the US would have been dealt a fatal blow. The only thing that would cause this would be to continue with the level if deregulation that were are presently experiencing. I am not an economist but this is the way I see it. Prove me wrong and I will bow to your point of view.
Louie – Louie – Louie, you say you know who I am. I’m sorry, I can’t place you. But I’m going to comment anyway.
First off let me ease your mind. Folks don’t seem to be upset with government; they are. Yes, business is what people use to acquire income. Is there another method?
You said, “We give it the right to determine life and death with our insurance provider. We give it the right to take away all that we worked so hard to acquire even though we committed to it a degree of dedication it never deserved.”
Define “We”? Government is giving everything you speak of away. The people are the ones raising hell about it. You sit back on your hands and imagine all those rich capitalist republicans taking everything. Well it’s the rich capitalist republicans that are screaming at the new socialist democratic movement about giving it all away.
Gary,
Thanks for the reply. I wonder how many millions of Americans were doing all the right things when the housing market went through the floor. They give their job all they have. They do without in order to invest in their future. Then one day their home value drops by 35-40 % and their 401K drops by 60%. Their rate of income never climbs at the rate of the consumer price index so they are falling behind in the standard of living. They see their friends drop by the wayside as companies institute cost cutting measures to insure profitability. As a result they are asked to do more for less in order to stay employed. How do we blame this on government?
It was the government that allowed "corporate america" to send all of our jobs overseas, which led to the millions of people who are now unemployed. It is the government who wants to make the avg american think they are getting a tax break when in reality we are all going more in debt. It is the government that printed trillions of dollars and keeps borrowing money from China for "pork".
It is the government that wants to give money to Amtrack.
It is the government that wants to give money for a new federal employee building instead of remodeling existing buildings that are sitting empty.
It is the local government that continues to give builders permits for subdivision after subdivision.
If Lamar county isn't careful we will end up just as bad as Clayton county. The government " zoning dept, commisioners" should mandate that all homes be on a minimum of a 2 acre lot. They should mandate no more new subdivivions until all of the ones in process are 80% sold.
Any new subdivisions should be better mandated.
So you see the government does hold the purse strings that pull corporate, state, and local gov't.
Home values dropped for everyone from the poor to the rich. If you own a home then your value has dropped. It depends on where you live in the United States as to how much value was lost. Around here home values have not decreased anywhere near 35 – 40%. Government forced the lending of money to people for homes they could not afford. Aren’t you aware of the benefits Obama reaped from that?
Anyone who has a 401K, rich or poor, lost; or maybe they didn’t. The price of the stock fell. You still own the same number of shares you were invested in unless you panicked and pulled all your money out. The market will come back. Take advantage of the lower stock prices now by increasing the amount you’re investing. You’ll be buying shares at a reduced rate and when the market does return, you’ll be shocked at the amount of worth it increased.
Let’s use some common sense. Companies must make a profit or they cannot stay in business. Government has passed the largest tax increase in history. This has forced companies to close and jobs go with those closures. Government is trying to convince you that they are greatly increasing the taxes on the very wealthy in order to provide for less wealthy. I’m sure you have heard the term redistribution of wealth. However, those higher taxes are going to be passed down as well and you are going to be in worse condition. High taxes are forcing companies to close or move out of the country. Government controls those taxes.
Health care is one thing at the center of the socialist movement going on now. Socialized medicine is a killer. I guess those that have no health insurance would consider inferior health care over no health care. That makes sense I guess. But, if government would have insisted that companies provided health benefits to their employees rather than taxing them out of business, we would have fewer problems now.
In the socialized end, the person at the bottom will get the worst of the shaft. If anything people should see what’s going on now, and it should encourage them to get educated for the future.
The Government didn’t force then to do anything. The banks gave government backed credit to those who couldn’t afford it in order to get their commission.
On 401K investments, for many the initial investment also showed a loss and when the boomers start pulling out their money at retirement let just see what happens then.
You’re right let’s use common sense. We bail out the banks because if they go under so do we and the first thing they do instead of passing it down to stimulate the economy they increase the interest on retroactive credit cards debt, and cut off the line of credit for businesses. That is what is causing companies to close the doors not taxes.
The US can learn from other industrialized nations who do have universal health care. You’re right educate yourself on where the US stands compared to other countries in the quality of health care and longevity. It looks like to me it is you who are making no sense.
My favorite quote about the tea parties comes from Anderson Cooper-- "It's hard to talk when you're teabagging." *smirks*
All seriousness aside, it seems as if most of the tea parties were an attempt at bashing Obama than at actually protesting so-called government fiscal policy. I'm all for people exercising their 1st Amendment rights, but please stop calling it a tea party because there is representation. For the most part, the people that are in office were elected by the American people--excluding the appointees.
If people are really so concerned about fiscal policy, they should have been protesting 4-5 years ago when the govt. borrowed trillions of dollars from China. Now that's some stuff to really be concerned about.
I'm really tired of people claiming that they are against socialist policies when they have benefited from "social programs" such as public schools, libraries, and police officers. Aren't those financed by tax payers???
As for the higher taxes issues, most large corporations have tax shelters set up outside of the US to avoid paying high corporate taxes so I really don't buy that they went out of business because of high taxes. Total B.S. there...
For anyone's info...a "tea party" in the gay community is a sex act that I will not ellaborate on. Hence Anderson Cooper and David Gergen cackling like school girls about this. Both are frequent visitors of the annual Bohemiam Grove get togethers every summer in Northern California.
The uprise in "tea parties" actually started with the 9/11 truthers a while ago. Ron Paul and his supporters adopted this way of protest and lately has been hijacked by the Neocons to try and make Obama look bad, whom I might add needs no help in doing so.
Meanwhile, the banksters continue to rape the country, unhibited and without punishment. We need to convince or elect officials who will arrest, convict and inprison these people who have screwed us for so long...the list, in my opinion, includes, the Bush family, the Clintons, the Kennedys and just about everyone in Congress. It's time to start over. If any one of us would have behaved as these folks have behaved, we'd be sitting in some federal prison.
The American people have been victims of fraud, plain and simple. With a gazillion lawyers walking around, you'd think a chosen few would have the guts to confront these folks...oops..my mistake, they are lawyers.
Where were all the loud mouth critics of spending and debt and screwing the American people when Bush was in office?
Bush never even showed the wars he started, including the one in the WRONG country, in his budget. He hid most of the real cost.
You all sat by and for the last 30 or 40 years let jobs exit the country and let financial institutions be deregulated, now you are crying little clucking Chicken Littles.
Lizzy from some of your past posts it is obvious you are highly infatuated with Obama. Why can't you people get past the color of his skin. It is no more ridiculous for you to call these protests as a racial protest as it is for the loon Nancy Pelosi to call it astroturf. You both seem to fit in the same category to me. You once stated you made a wonderful salary and would be glad to share your wealth. Well, here is your chance, go to it, but please get off your race card, you can't read the mind of these citizens and know all their concerns, face it, you may be smart, but I don't think you are that smart.
Anonymous@ 08:28 AM (since there are sooo many people that post on this blog anonymous and I don't have the benefit of knowing your past posting history)--- Where in my post did I "play" the race card?
I don't know what you mean when you say "you" people. I'm probably the most color-blind person that you would meet. I'm not hung up on race, however I do recognize and I WILL call out blatant racism when I see it.
The fact that President that I proudly voted for is multi-racial is just a happenstance--definitely not the reason that I voted for him.
I never mentioned anything racial about these "tea-parties". Maybe you're the one that's lacking in intelligence here???
If anything I believe that this more of a partisan attempt to undermine the current administration.
ETA: Maybe you need a to brew yourself a cup of tea and calm down...lol
I wonder if Obama is going to do anything about the American cutizen being sentenced to 8 years in prison in Iran. Maybe he should go over there and bow down to some other Muslim leader. What a disgrace. Where will we be after 4 years of apoligies and bad mouthing the people of his country?
It seems as if the Secretary of State is looking into the issue, and deciding how things should be handled.
It's an unfortunate incident, but I feel as a journalist that happens to have dual citizenship (Iran/US) she was well aware of the risks she was taking.
He wanted the job. He should become a leader instead of a butt kissing, apologizing, blemish on America. You like him, that’s fine. It’s your right. I think he is acting like a cowering un-American idiot. That’s my right. In my opinion, he’s definitely not acting like a leader of a super power. His inexperience in an executive position is shining through. Oh, and Sec of State Clinton! She’s lost too and just as bad. If they want my respect they will have to earn it and, they’re doing a poor job of that.

Yep, that last guy in office was a great example of a leader. Tried to bully his way around like a spoiled kid, and where did it get us? I much prefer the peaceful approach. Call it what you will.
Dear Rush,
Sorry to hear that. Crosswords can help you improve.
As for the last leader, it will be very interesting to see how history paints him. I'll put my money on history painting him pertty good. At least the United States was never attacked again with him in office. Would you care to guess how long it will be before America is on the receiving end of another attack? Freedom isn't free.
why would he do anything, she broke there law, What do we do when someone from over there breaks our laws? You don't have to answer you'll just be wrong
#27 where did you get this info about Bush hiding the cost of the war. Come on, are you just making that up or do you have some concrete proof of that. Everyone knows that war costs in many ways and I see no way he could have hidden any of it.
Lizzy -if the tea partiers are trying to undermine this administration, can you not conceive that the reason is he is doing just about everything they believe is wrong. The majority of the tea partiers are against raising taxes and super spending. Before you bash Bush, why is it okay for Obama to continue much of the Bush policies and it is okay! If you complain about Bush's spending, then why is it okay that Obama is spending so much more and we have already been warned - he will need more money. Just so you know why I posted under anonymous, I guess I just don't trust you, so slam me back, it's okay. By the way, I've had my tea and I feel VERY calm, blinky, blinky.
You are losing it old man. This crap has been going on for 40 years and it is not just the Democrats at a fault. The Republican agenda is just as bad for America and the world.
You also don't know squat about the cause of the housing crash. It was both Republican and Democrats at work causing the housing mess. Phil Gramm, the big Republican ex-senator from Texas, pushed for some legislation that set up up for this disaster as have Republicans and Democrats alike. Your hate for Obama is misplaced unless you include the Bushes and Clinton and Reagan in the mix, because all had more of hand in this than Obama ever did.
It is tough to swallow, but this all started with deregulation and letting critical businesses have free reign....and that is largely a Republican agenda. Both parties are equally at fault because they all poison our minds with hate for others just so they can get re-elected.
You are behaving like a squawking mindless parrot repeating what the people who are ruining our country would like us to believe. How's that natural gas deregulation working in Georgia? How did that electrical deregulation work in California?
Why should complete deregulation of financial institutions, a thing that actually started way back with Reagan, be any different?
I'm impressed. 65 people showed up out of 650,000 in a surrounding 15 mile radius. 0.01 percent of the population has had it and has decided to revolt.
100 times more people per capita were interested in David's beer party with live sex acts than the so-called "tea party".
35.1 your comment makes me real proud to be a Republican!!!!!

You people of Barnesville.........uh..uh..uh ...hold on... that damn teleprompter is acting up...uh...uh.....If you people of Barnesville go to a tax revolt thingy then I am classifying you as a terrorist.
According to the news, Chavez says he has made his greatest accomplishment this past week because he has begun to spread his country's form of socialism to the United States. Some of our ally countries are also questioning what is going on with the US stand around the world. Boy, does this make you proud? I am totally embarrased by our leader's actions. Guess he enjoyed the book from Chavez.
What a crazy past two days it has been for our executive administration.
Let's rewind two weeks. Mr. President would hardly exchange a cheek kiss with a French supporter when greeting the public in France. Complete European feux pas considering the county is not our enemy, per se. They are largely in support of Obama and this country.
Then Mr. President goes on to shake hands, smiles, and kind words with Chavez; one of the most anti-American leaders in the entire world? Let's get real. He is hardly a pretty, young French woman. He is a brutal dictator and human rights violator. He is a major oppressor of Venezuela, on the whole.
That act alone sent a huge signal to all of Latin America about how our country now views dictators. Honestly, what's next? Dining with Iran? Or what about a garden stroll with North Korea or even cocktails and cigars with the Castro brothers?
Maybe Pres. Obama should have had some “Freedom Fries” before he left the white house. When I was in France there were many I wouldn’t care to kiss myself. Those people don’t bath regularly. I did find a McDonalds though and got a cup of coffee.
If you look at the video Chavez sought Obama out for a greeting. Not the other way around. It’s interesting that you should bring up Iran. How many years did the US back the Shaw while his people were in squalor?
If you believe the isolation tactic has worked for Iran, Cuba, and North Korea the results don’t support it. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Drew……..you’re smarter than this…….I expected more from you. You need a different mentor.
And I, too, 'Louie' know you are smarter than this.
Obama should have had some "Freedom Fries?" Freedom fries were nothing more than a euphemism for French fries used by conservatives in the U.S. as a result of anti-French sentiment in the United States. Why would such a food make Obama more diplomatic in his dealing with the French?
And having lived in Paris I can attest to the fact that people there do regularly bathe. It is true that French people are not as obsessed as Americans about daily showers and the scent of soap. But almost all practice perfectly acceptable hygeine, and you are just as likely to encounter a smelly person here in Barnesville as you are in even the French countryside. That was just a bad argument. Shame on you for grasping at straws.
It is hard to tell, in my opinion, whether or not Chavez sought out Obama or vice versa. I will say that at one point it looked like Obama was anxious to walk away but was held back by Chavez. Whatever the case, Obama did put himself in the situation at the meeting and if you continue to watch the meeting between the two men it is Obama who is doing the talking. If he was uncomfortable, I think he would have continued to walk away.
And concerning Iran, I think you are referring to the Shah and not the Shaw. There has been speculation concerning our "on again - off again" relationship with Iran including Human Rights issues, nuclear warfare issues, and even speculation about a scenario similar to the Gulf of Tonkin. I do remember reading once that the relationship between the Shah and Nixon began back in '52 or '53 so there is a long history.
I do think the entire US Policy of Isolation has worked although I do think that certain components have been successful. The general embargo (except for food and medicine allowances) have brought about times of reckoning. I do also think that isolation has led to increasing difficulty for the people groups of those countries while keeping US citizens in the dark about our global colleagues. What I meant was that Obama has to be more careful and more calculated about this meetings. He is under a great deal of scrutiny and needs to be firm with his decision regarding both socialist and communist countries lest the American people begin to think we are headed in that same direction under his tutelage.
Be careful Drew in what you say, some seem to feel Obama is going to save our country and every country around us and we will just be one big ole happy bunch. I wish he would get it thru his head we are not dealing with kind children on the playground. These are the folks that want to see us destroyed. Now that he has released the reports on water boarding, it will be interesting to see if he will kindly release the results of these actions. Without the information gained from these actions, there would have been another crash into buildings in California. This info did come as a result of our country's "brutal" behavior toward these captives and this action was presented. I frankly would not care if they strapped these detainees to a railroad track and forgot where they left them. I don't appreciate our country being attacked and ridiculed and then have a poor excuse of a man go abroad and apologive for us. Granted, he does not speak for me.

What you say makes no sense.
Total B.S. there...

Check out the newly frugal guy clip.
Bush never even showed the wars he started, including the one in the WRONG country, in his budget. He hid most of the real cost.
You all sat by and for the last 30 or 40 years let jobs exit the country and let financial institutions be deregulated, now you are crying little clucking Chicken Littles.
It seems as if the Secretary of State is looking into the issue, and deciding how things should be handled.
It's an unfortunate incident, but I feel as a journalist that happens to have dual citizenship (Iran/US) she was well aware of the risks she was taking.

100 times more people per capita were interested in David's beer party with live sex acts than the so-called "tea party".
If you look at the video Chavez sought Obama out for a greeting. Not the other way around. It’s interesting that you should bring up Iran. How many years did the US back the Shaw while his people were in squalor?
If you believe the isolation tactic has worked for Iran, Cuba, and North Korea the results don’t support it. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
Drew……..you’re smarter than this…….I expected more from you. You need a different mentor.
