The smell of honeysuckle looms thick in the air. The blossoms hang delicately from a fence made of timber frame and hardware cloth. They are a welcome respite from the stench.

I have a friend that I visit frequently that lives less than 100 yards from this. Along with the raw sewage, there is a swarm of mosquitos. Even during the middle of the day you get attacked. I think the problem comes from all the tires left out year round. Lamar Tire is an eyesore to the community. Don't we pay for tire disposal everytime we purchase a new tire? Where does this money go? Will it take someone getting malaria, the West Nile Virus, Yellow fever or Encephalitis before anything is done.
All of the junk tires at Lamar tire are loaded into a van trailer and disposed of once the trailer is full. Any tires you see sitting outside are used tractor trailer tires that are for sale. These tires are constantly cycled out due to people buying them. IF the tires start collecting water Mr. Pelt usually sends a couple of his employees out to shake the water out of the tires. I know this because I use to work there and I have personally shook the water out of those tires several times.
Raw sewage with bacteria and diseases floating in a ditch.
Mosquitoes being bred in old tires near the ditch to transport the diseases to people.
And we are supposed to believe no one complains so the city never noticed. We are supposed to think Barnesville bends over backwards to keep the city safe and clean. This is a city whose mayor insists we fine people $1000 for throwing a candy wrapper out the window. He wouldn't tolerate old tires piled up in front of any business, not even Waller trucking.
This is not a new problem; its been a problem for several years and the people working for the city know it. Also, sewer issues are occurring above Lamar Tire toward the intersection of College and Taylor, particularly after heavy rains. Flushing of these lines are a temporary fix and an indicator that existing lines are not adequate to handle the number of businesses that utilize these lines. Its past due for the city to assume responsibility for correcting this problem by installing adequate lines that alleviate back ups.
We are not a third world country yet. Give Obama a little longer and we will be, but not yet. Find the damn problem and fix it. Get a feces detector. Just solve the problem. How stupid!
No we are certainly not a third world country! You want to blame everything on President Obama. It's because of ignorant people such as yourself as to the reason the problem has not been taken care of. Put the blame on the right people. Just don't blame everyone else!!!
It take a Black man to run a white man job right. Just like Tiger Wood. He play the whites game and is the best. Next when A Black man is in Racecars he will be the best at that too! So just shut up!
So, you have not see anything good he has done either. This is not about color....It's about ethics!! I am sick of hearing everything as to be about color!! Live in the present not the past!!
People go back and read the article again. Mr. Shirey, ( the director ) noted that there was no log in the book for that area in the past. Notice that the workers said, they have been to that same area to work on the same issue. Is someone trying to cover up there mess up??
Oh, and I have always been told that you should never have to pump a line. Pumping only last for a short period of time. If you need to pump then the lines need to be redone.
well it took 50 years for them to clean up that area between holmes st and lamar tire. Now no only do we have to look at the hideous rental properties that sit there we also have to look at Kips junk now that the brush is cut back.
The smell may be coming from L.T. That whole area looks like crap up to "Lee Otis Butlers" old house and all the way down tyus st. Some of those houses on tyus is decent. Isnt there a city code on not being nasty?
ohhh, now i get it...... that was sarcasm. i will let you in on a secret.... the other two entries were sarcasm also!!! SUPRISE!!! nice to learn something new isnt it. class dismissed!
I wish people would start living in the now time instead of the past. Every time you hear anything on tv orread the news paper someone is blaming some to be raceid, come on every body is treated the same now adays. Slavery was ended years ago,get a real life folks.
I work in the sewer business and 99% of our back-ups involve either roots and grease. People don't understand that rinsing grease down the drain will get caught on thiings (such as roots) and will start to build up and cause the main to stop up. In the town that I work in, we have a program called a "Hot Spot" list that we try to check weekly. Those spots on the list are spots that have backed up before. We have showed up and found mains that have been stopped up and we took care of the situation at hand. Maybe the city of Barnesville needs to come up with a program like this.
As for the wastewater dumping into the creek for 5 months, that's hard to believe. I think the longest we have ever had a manholes spilling over was maybe 2 or 3 days. I believe that if Mr. Stepanski was doing his job as a citizen, he should of called the city about it. People don't realize that the purpose of a wastewater system is to remove disease from everyday life. When that is compromised, the situation needs to be fixed.

Is it April 1? This all has to be a joke.
