After years of opposition and in excess of $70,000 in legal fees, the North Lamar County Concerned Citizens (NLCCC) organization has reached an agreement with Vulcan Materials regarding its quarry here and has dropped its opposition to it.

Yes, when done, there will be a big hole in the ground. That kind of comes with the name doesn't it? Also, I can think of much worse things to happen on my watch if I were an elected official. Let's say spending tons of money to attract businesses over the years that don't stay. How about trying to do business with someone who is now under FBI scrutiny. Or even being someone who went on to embarrass the community with their actions while a judge or city/county employee. Kind of makes a hole in the ground that might make some money for the county not look so bad.
Just because you can think of worst business than a granite quarry does not make it any more appealing. I can think of a thousand businesses that would have a more positive impact on our community. Yes, businesses come and go but it’s what they leave behind for future generations to live with is what make’s this situation so dreadful.

I can't believe that over 70k has been spent and the group will walk away. Yuo all ain't seen nothing yet. Put up a new sign and call it "Welcome to boom county"...
