A small army of law enforcement officers from multiple agencies gathered before dawn this morning at the old Barnesville Academy gym in anticipation of a well-orchestrated sweep to remove known drug dealers from the streets of Barnesville-Lamar County.

I generally don't get into ridiculous racial arguments on the web site as many of them are unfounded and rather ignorant. However, I feel the need to speak up on this issue.

The image of the African-American man in handcuffs being put into the car was the only mention or visual of a suspect during the raids. Why? Because he was the only one arrested while I was working this story. The other homes turned up no leads. This is not to say, however, that this raid targeted one race, neighborhood, or creed over another. If there was evidence regarding a suspected drug dealer on Thomaston Street than I would be more than happy to photograph that and splash it across the headlines.

I am sure there are dealers (of some degree) and users spread throughout Barnesville. The one thing that few think about though is that some people show more discretion than others and are less quick to talk about their personal interests.

Very well said Drew. I for one am so tired of hearing the race card being thrown around. Oh and the Thomaston Street card, yes believe it or not some people think that folks on T St feel they are above the law or better than others. Some may but all the ones that I know that live on that street don't and aren't. So get over it once again.

Again, as far as Drew is concerned if you don't like the pics he post get up off your butt, go get some experience in journalism and go apply for a job at the Gazette.

It is nice to see the County finally doing something to clean our community up. They need to take care of Atlanta St. It is so obvious the drug dealing going on there. Maybe they will get to the High School and take care of the deals going on there also. I hear about these kids selling pills that they take from their parents.

We ask people need to stick together as one there are so much going on around us that we tend to forget what matter the most. They tell you this and they do the opposite of what they tell you. Parent if your children are doing illegal stuff sit down and talk to them. As long as you black people being living on this earth they alway is the first to go down. Like the commercials says these kids are stealing and selling prescription pills..But since that happens across the tracks that won't get addressed..Aside from that Walton was bringing in more drugs than all of those dealers combined when he was previously in office..Y'all are a bunch of fools if you think this made any difference at all..When has it ever? This doesn't have anything to do with drug dealing and everything to do with a poor economy..I bet the majority of people don't even get much time if any at all..This is just a way of Barnesville boosting their economy by locking up as many people as they can..Our federal govt, state, and county get paid for every inmate..They also get free money from probation..The same reason there are so many roadblocks..I feel sorry for the people who still live there because the people in Barnesville have become prisoners in their own communities because of the police..People don't even want to visit their family on a regular due to all the harassment there..It's sad because Barnesville once was a town where people felt comfortable in their community..Look at the steady decline over the last 10 to 15 years..All the little improvements done around there still won't hide the fact that the city is dead and if the fools in office keep getting put there nothing will ever change there..It's like a 2k ghost town..

If you are correct and your friend is innocent and will "get through this" then the justice system will release him and we will cover that as well. We are non-partisan. There is a disproportionate number of black inmates versus white inmates. The numbers don't lie. I think however, instead of getting bogged down on black and white percentages argument we should consider trying to get all non-violent drug offenders free. No matter what color they are. It is very costly to house non-violent drug offenders. The money would be better spent improving communities. Helping people get proper drug rehabilitation. Prison will not rehabilitate. Prisons do just the opposite they make people into career criminals. Let's continue moving forward in race relations, we have come a long way. Not far enough, but we have made strides. As for non-violent drug offenders, Let them go free

If we were all truthful we, would admit that drugs are a problem for most of the world and you donot have to be a certain color to sell or consume them. I remember going to work in Barnesville for my City job on July 9th, 1974, when I heard my friend, Robert Harrell, calling Jackson P.D. for help, cause there was a "R-I-O-T" in Barnesville. When I went to the fire station, I asked Robert what was going on and he told me, and said don't go down Mill Street. Well, that is the normal way I went to my City job. I had never seen so many police,deputies,State Patrol,etc. in my life in one little town, including some I had played football with at my highschool, toting AR-15's or maybe M-16's. I am a former Marine veteran of Vietnam, but I didn't get to examine their weapons since I somehow had to get to work, and made it, and had my trusty stainless steel S&W 38 Combat Masterpiece with me, that I had traded to a very good policeman friend in Barnesville, with a Ruger Blackhawk .45 that he kelp asking me for! God bless you, C. Green, Korean War Veteran! I always loved Barnesville and have many ancestrial connections to B-ville, including the wife of the founder of Gordon, which I attended. I just had to speak my peace about this blog. I am not originally from here (meaning the South), so I thought I might post my thoughts on the situation. So many people have drifted away from the article and argued with one another. I was shocked when I first moved down here to see how racism still exists and how much hate exists among blacks and whites. I'm sure that it will always exists until the end of time because there will always be uneduated folks in this world. This country is a land of freedom, so be thankful that you have a voice and can express it.

As for the drug activity in this area, it will always be a problem because Atlanta is so close by. The cops got these folks off the street, but someone will step up into their shoes. The best way to defeat this problem is to educate your children on the effects of drug use and explain to them the consequences of selling drugs.

I grew up in Barnesville, GA & also went 2 Lamar county school with some of these ppl that were arrested on this drug bust. Hell they don't want college kids 2 even c Mill street they detour them all the way around goin towards Flash food on the highway Barnesville does have ALOT of racist ties though U must admit! I rented for a long time before i bought my house. I guarantee that my house that i rented was treated as my own. I kept the grass cut. I pressure washed it, i kept flowers and shrubs trimmed, etc. I live in a house that represents me and my family. If there is no grass and it looks like just a dirt floor. Go rent and freaking tiller or borrow one and buy at 35 dollar bag of grass seed and 2 bales of wheat straw. Scrape the paint off that chipping everywhere. It represents you. I take pride in my yard and i might have the greenest grass in barnesville. Yea *pat of back for me.. i want a cookie*.. anyway. Its just how ppl carry themselves. If there are a group of young guys that look up to know good. Call the police and report suspicious activity. Let 3 kids no matter what race post up in front of my house all hours of the night and see what happens. They will find a new place to hang out. Everyone has to work together to stop all of this.

this is insane.....the original gansters are Tamp and Shameka.....yeah she looks like a football player.....but shes as soft and as gullible as a 3 yr old......she does his dirty work....she drives his cars....and spends his "dirty" money.....and Sheba is just as guilty because she helps.....and smokes his products......she knws more than what she tells authorities....this is not new and has been going on for a while.....just because u turn a couple of street hustlers names over....u shouldnt be able to walk free....they r facing FELONY counts and probably will be charged with misdameanors....due to the bond they share with the authorities....since they snitched on friends....and FAMILY......lets get these slicksters of the streets and behind bars....its time for them to be somebodies bitch in jail:-)
