An unusually wet March brought major drought relief to north Georgia. Only the Lake Lanier and Lake Hartwell basins were left in drought. The remainder of north Georgia was drought-free.

April showers only continued the trend.

this weather sucks. Id almost rather be in a drout. Rain once a week for an hour or so is one thing but it seems like its been raining pretty much all the time for 3 or so weeks.

19 days to be exact. We have seen some level of precipitation for the last 19 days without fail. I don't prefer drought over this sort of saturation. Neither one is particularly good for anything. I know that right now my garden is not doing so well because the roots are over-saturated. I do hope this comes to an end soon.

I actually do have quite a bit of drainage. In fact, I employ a groundwater / grey water system at my place. However, my garden is at the base of a small incline (albeit in 14" raised beds) and receives almost all of the runoff. This is good though, I think. It really shows me what I need to do for planting next year.

How are your plants holding up?

My garden is also doing quite well. The intermittent showers and the moderate tempt is what I pray for. I have 200 hills of exotic ornamentals and the trick is to get then through July and August. I use soaker hoses and then cover the soil with newspaper and on the newspaper I put wheat straw. This keeps the moisture where it needs it the most. The paper keeps the soil temperature down and acts as a weed block. I diligently worked on my soil. It’s like black gold. Anybody who ain’t composting ain’t gardening.
I’ll bring you folks at the BHG some of my handwork come September.

I am SO ready for some dry weather and sunny days...My little grandchildren need to get outside and play and run off some of their energy.
