Remember when ‘tell it like it is’ was a national catchphrase? So do I.
Aaron Neville had a hit song that bore these words as its title. Sadly, we can no longer tell it like it is for fear of offending some obscure minority. It is political correctness run amok.
Political correctness is at the heart of churches being timid about teaching good old fashioned Bible values today. Some even fear losing their taxation status, as if God is too broke to support them if they speak up.
I read this morning, probably not a new story, about Christians being coerced out of their homes in another country by militant islamists.... then those same militants bulldozed their homes. But that will never come to our country, right? I wonder.
I am close to 70 now, and I remember when... you are a young man yet :) but you remember too! One woman who just would not be silenced took prayer out of schools. One or two complain about anything it seems, and officials at schools cave in and punish the kids and teachers who still believe in Christian values.
When are we going to stand up? What do we have to gain if we do? I don't know, but I am just old enough and crazy enough now that I don't care! I, and others, will speak up as often as we can :)
Thank you for using your column to remind us that our values do, or should, mean something more than being politically correct!
