Just as the rain hit Barnesville three teenagers' short ride to the city pool ended badly, putting one in the back of an ambulance headed to Spalding Regional Medical Center.

I pray he is okay. I also worry about the kids driving the golf carts sporadically over on Collier Road too. I am very thankful that something more serious has not happened.
wow.. great job parents of children by teaching them the right thing to do and the dangers of such ignorance.
My guess is they were coming from the apts over on gordon rd or the projects. If so, it figures.
It amazes me that people like you are constantly saying negative things when you don't know the person. Your lives must be very misable if all you have to do with your time is read the website and blog hurtful thing. I think maybe you should look at your own lives before you start judging others. I mean if I were the type of person you are then I would have to say your momma didn't do any better if you can act that way toward people you don't even know let alone a child. But I don't hold your momma responsible. She can't help what a jerk her son turned out to be and she is probably disappointed in the way you have acted. Just know, if you ask for forgiveness you will be forgiven.
I think when it comes to a child if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. This child is in the hospital with head injuries and if you want to comment you should send your support and prayers to his Family. If I remember correctly....we were all kids at one time and we did our share of things that were not smart! Im praying for this Family and my heart aches for them!
This has nothing to do with the projects. Shame on you.
It doesn't take a reckless driver to kill or hurt someone when they are riding on a hood or trunk. It takes a combination of stupid driver and stupid rider. Sorry to see someone get hurt.
I agree about the golf carts. That is the next stupid teenager thing waiting to happen. Those are white boys (on a green golf cart mostly) doing that stupid driving. From out on Crane Road I think. Stupid comes in all colors. It is usually from bad parents.
name calling and finger pointing doesn't help things! there is a hurt child involved and that is all that matters. i know this child and he is a very nice well rounded young man that is well liked by all around him. and now he is very hurt and it the hospital. right now everyone needs to be thinking that it could be your child and praying he is ok. we were all stupid kids at sometime!
I don't think anybody has any bad intent for the kid that was hurt. But, the act of doing something foolish is what is being criticized, not disdain for the health or welfare of the victim. The act of taking a risk like this one was stupid... The act, mind you. Being a kid, and being stupid doesn't prevent accidents. It causes them.
Face it. A lot of parents let their kids run wild these days, and this won't be the last accident or tragedy that happens because of it. Sometimes, I just shake my heads at some folks, as they are totally in la'la' land.
Im am 100% sure this childs parents would not have allowed him to ride on back of a car like that. You can not be with your kids all the time when you have a JOB. The parents work very hard and I know for a fact that they are always concerned about where the child is and what he is doing. Apparently some of you do not have teenage boys. I do and mine had an accident not too long ago and had to be airlifted, if you have never been through a time when YOUR CHILD has been seriously injured you have no idea how these parents feel and I for one pray that they do not read your nasty comments about their son. He is not STUPID! Now the person driving the car allowing the kids to ride on it like that is a whole new story!
I agree with you 110%...whatever idiot thinks that parents are to blame is CRAZY...kids will be kids just as we all were and they WILL have accidents and they ALL will do crazy things at some point...it is simply a part of LIFE.
I feel really bad for this family. This kid comes to my house with my nephew sometimes. He is a very quite child, and very well mannered. He made a bad mistake today that got him seriously hurt and my prayers are with him and his family. I hope that he will be ok.
You know what? This was just a teenage lapse in judgement and the young man is lucky to be alive. I am praying for his recovery.
This accident has absolutely nothing to do with his parents, where he may live, or God forbid, race.
This is a foolish thing a young person did.
I swear, some people here act like they have never done anything like this in their entire life. How nice to be so perfect.
As for me, I have made and I continue to make mistakes and hope I am smart enough to learn from them.
well he wasnt with his parents he was at a freinds house and that boys mom was driving them! AND HE IS NOT FROM NO PROJECTS!!! that was wrong for whoever to say that!
Your post is old, but i don't care, who f'n cares where he was from, you sound like a dumb southerner, and if you want to stereotype things and make it so bad that he can't be from the projects...the way you said he wasn't from the projects makes it like the projects is so horrible well, you SOUND like you are from the projects. At least you sound like you are from these projects you consider to be so horrible. GROW UP!
He has a cracked skull and swelling on the brain. He has multiple abrasions, terrible scratches, and they are having to keep him sedated from all the pain.He has been sent to Egleston Children's Hospital. Please continue to pray for him. He is from a wonderful family who does watch their children and this was a freak accident that just happened. Some of you are right, we have been children at one point in time and we all have done some very foolish things and this will not be the last teenager to make a mistake or use poor judgement in making a decision.
as of 1:30 today Doc in Atlanta said things looking good. hopefully him and his family will be home soon , and those of you that think you and your kids are perfect think again. No matter where you come from. That boy is a friend to all your kids. Pray they never hear you talk about them that way. Shame on any one that looks down on our youth. Right or wrong the youth will and should always be OUR KIDS on your street or mine.
Hi to everyone in Lamar County. My name is Judy Holsclaw and I am one of many football moms at Lamar county High School. I am writing this blog for a special young teenager named Iven Banks. Iven is one of our 9th graders for this year that is playing on our Trojan team. His brother Patrick Banks has been a Trojan football player since he was in the 9th grade. Patrick is a senior this year at Lamar High school.
Today 7-9-09 Iven was in a car accident . He is now at Egleston Hospital in Atlanta. So far all we know is that he has a hair line fracture of the head and has several cuts and bruises. They are doing tests on him now. Iven did wake up at the hopsital but now is having a lot of swelling in his head.
Dear Lamar County
WE NEED PRAYERS FOR THIS YOUNG TEENAGER AND HIS FAMILY.
Thank you
Judy Holsclaw
PLEASE PEOPLE BE NICE THIS CHILD WAS ONE OF MY FRIENDS HE IS A BOY AND A KID WE DO DO STUPID THINGS BUT THAT IS LIFE SO PLEASE ASKING FROM ANOTHER KID HELP AND SEND FLOWERS OR A CARD PLEASE KEEP HIM IN YOUR PRAYERS AND THIS HAS HAPPENED AND CANT DO ANY THING TO CAHNGE IT.. BELIEVE ME IF I COULD CHANGE IT WOULD OF NEVER HAPPENED....PLEASE KEEP HIM IN YOUR PRAYERS..
Ivan Banks will be in the 8th grade this year at LCMS. Yes, he does need us to continue to pray for his recovery as well as for his family. They need God's loving comfort at this time to help get through this. I also pray for each one of you who has put all the judging comments. You know nothing of the boy or his family. Both of his parents work full time jobs and are well liked and respected in this community. The young man has the best of manners, always saying "yes ma'am, Yes sir." Both parents love and care about their children and do not let them run wild as too many of you think. The important thing right now isn't your nasty comments (you just can't help yourselves), but it's Ivan's recovery! I pray you never have to go through anything like this with your own children, but it is nice to know we have so many PERFECT people in Lamar County as yourselves.
THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR POSITIVE COMMENTS AND PRAYERS, THER'RE MUCH APPRECIATED ! AS FAR AS THE NEGATIVE COMMENTS THAT WERE MADE ABOUT MY SON, THEY ARE AS STUPID AS THE PEOPLE THAT MADE THEM ! (LOOKS LIKE WE ALL NEED TO PRAY FOR EACH OTHER) I WILL NOT GET CAUGHT UP IN ALL THE NEGATIVE THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN SAID, BECAUSE ME AND MY FAMILY ARE BETTER THAN THAT. BUT I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE THAT HAS SAID A PRAYER AND ALL THE PHONE CALLS. THEY WERE VERY COMFORTING TO ME AND TO IVAN WE BOTH KNOW THAT "GOD" HAD HIS HANDS ON MY SON THROUGH THIS, AS WE KNOW GOD IS OUR PROTECTOR .
I'm sorry this happened and I hope the boy is OK but it isn't a "freak accident" when a kid climbs on the outside of a car to ride and gets thrown off. The driver was not mature enough to be driving and should have his license revoked. His parents should pay the bills. This was an intentional careless act not a freak accident.
This was not an intentional accident. Ivan didn't get on that car with the intention of falling off and if you think he did you are very foolish in your thinking. What person would ever do something so stupid as that. Accidents are what they are accidents any way you look at it. I suppose you have never made a wrong judgement call on the spur of the moment without thinking of the consequences first! Sure you have,we all have at one point in time. So don't be soooo judgemental about this issue.
IF YOU GONNA CONTINUE TO EXPRESS YOUR OPINION WHEATHER IT BE A FREAK ACCIDENT OR A BAD DECISION," GET YOUR STORY STRAIGHT FIRST". IVAN DID NOT CLIMB OUT OF A CAR ONTO A TRUNK, HE HAD SAT ON THE BACK FOR JUST A MINUTE AND THIS HAPPENED VERY QUICKLY. THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED.
To Ivan's parents,
We are praying for him to have a quick recovery. Our son has played football with Ivan for several years now and we all have been very worried by this tragedy. You are GREAT people! Tell Ivan that his teammates need him to get better as soon as possible.
hey ivan ja'shawn banks i love you as a brother i have you and your whole family in my prayers and they will never leave them promise that!!!i do hope you get better!! and cant wait to see in 8 th even now i will be in 7 th i will see you alot!!! hope you feel better bye!!!
People seriously! Can we just look at the bigger issue here. A kid was hurt and thank God he is gonna be ok. Do we really need to sit here and debate on what happened and how stupid or reckless it may have been. He's a kid for crying out loud! Let's just be thankful that he his mistake was not a fatal one. And I can assure you that he will learn from that mistake. To Ivan's parents, I am sorry that you have to sit here and read all this junk. It could have been any one of our kids on that trunk, you didn't do anything wrong. And we can't help the fact that we live in a society where we actualy have to work to survive so we can't be with our kids 24/7. Again I am just so glad that Ivan is ok and it was good to meet you both at the hospital Friday. You take care and just know that God did have his hand on Ivan that day!
My guess is they were coming from the apts over on gordon rd or the projects. If so, it figures.

Here's your sign!
This accident has absolutely nothing to do with his parents, where he may live, or God forbid, race.
