An erroneous tax notice had Barnesville city councilwoman Anne Claxton up in arms at the July 9 tax assessor's board meeting.

Claxton received notice May 21 of a 2009 assessment for a home she owns at 537 Thomaston St. It added $120,335 in value to the house, raising the assessment from $297,610 to $417,945.

" for $50 a month, I won't be working eight hours a day..." First, I didn't get the impression that Mrs. Claxton was aking Ms. Dziedzic to work eight hours a day. Second, it is a public service position that Ms.Dziedzic holds. Maybe she should consider how much time may be required the next time she seeks public office. How many hours does on put in for $50 a month compensation? I bet it would calculates to more than minimum wage/hour.

What does Lisa Dziedzic have to do with the tax assesment? Does she work for the tax assessors office?

Our tax assessors need to be removed and start all over. Ms. Claxton was not doing this for presonal gain . Right is right and wrond is wrong. The world is in a down turn we can'y keep going up when we want to. the county as well as an individual has to cut back and live with what we have. Our goverment is we the people not a select few. wake up people.

Mrs. Dziedzic is appointed by a county commissioner to the Board of Tax Assessors and if this is her attitude, she should do herself and the county a favor by resigning as she knew her pay when she accepted this appointment.

Most of the appointed positions with the county doesn't pay one red cent, so what's is Mrs. Dziedzic problem?

Daiedzic is a real easte agent that benefits from having higher property values. The house in question has been for sale and she may have a buyer for it. The higher it is valued the more she makes off a commission. So the $50 a meeting is all of a sudden worth a whole lot more if she can get the values up in her position on the board. THINK ABOUT IT!

I feel Ms Dziedic has a conflict of interest by having this position. Her Real Estate association, causes me to believe that way. She is supposed to be there for the government and the taxpayer, I feel this is not the case.

Ms Claxton has attempted to acquire all the valuable property on Thomaston ST. and downtown buildings. I know that is for personal gain. I fail to sympathize with her too.

By all of the valuable property on Thomaston Street you mean the ONE house? She only owns 3 buildings downtown and I give her props. Can you blame her for wanting some extra income?

Apathy plays a large part in the problems we are experiencing in this county. I am guilty ,as most are, in not taking an active part in county business until in bites you in the proverbial rear-end.We tend to forget that these people in the employ of the county work for us and we have a voice that needs to be heard, sometimes loudly and assertively as Mrs. Claxton has done. Mistakes are made and that is inevitable, but instead of falling back on the minumum response required by law, we need to simply do what is right. This county is still small enough that citizens should expect some personal attention to the resolution of their problems.

You are right. It is apathy on all parts. The poor girls in the assessors office may be trying but that system has been screwed up and not following the law for many years now. It won't get straightened out for many years more. All of a sudden it bites Claxton in the rear and she cuts loose. Where was she for the past 20 years? The board of tax assessors has been doing illegal things for many years now. Government does what government wants.

What is the relationship between the tax assessors board and the tax commissioner office? Or is there any relationship?
