This afternoon around 1:30 p.m. Barnesville police served Apostle Bobby Slaughter (see: The House That Bobby Built in this week's print edition of The Herald-Gazette) with 15 counts of zoning ordinance violation on three different addresses: 306, 315 and 245 Atlanta Street.
UPDATE: Slaughter reported this evening the city cut off water and electricity to the three homes he rented for his halfway houses and has given him five days to vacate the premises.

Like said above, no one cares if there are "x" amount of Gordon students living in a house or if Spring property or McLeroy has ppl housed up. I think it is mostly about who lives here. These residents that get in this program want change in their life. This man has a good thing going here. Atlanta st is a perfect area for something like this. Its not in the middle of the bad area but its not so far away that ppl cant walk there and seek help.
to anonymous 1.1 let the city know what house you are talking about. If you don't report what you know they cannot do anything about it. In case you have not noticed the powers to be are trying to clean this town up.
To anonymous 5 If you know this to be a fact then shame on you for not taking action to let powers to be know.
If you see something that should no be happening in our town then call City Hall, Police or Planning and Zoning. They will look into it and take the necessary action. Just be sure you have your facts correct.
Have a blessed day.
I was taught a long time ago, that the grass may not be "greener" on the other side. These people kept the grass cut and things looking good in the properties. For the most part, they seemed to be good neighbors. Now whos to say who may move in the houses. I live in the apartments off Atlanta St., and the college kids that had the 315 address was the reason I considered moving. They kept loud music, parties, smelly trash piled sky high, different cars from all over Georgia and who knows what else......
Before them, there was the couple with over 10 dogs in the house $h!tt!n everywhere inside and outside the house. I could hear the dogs barking 24/7 in my apartment.
So you were able to get these people out the house, but hopefully they will not be replaced with a peeper, rapist, pedifiler, drug dealer, theive .........or MURDERER. Lets keep our fingers crossed....
Slaughter, please pray for the best with the next set of neighbors.
Let one of the members fall and break a leg because there is no power, or let one have a heat stroke and the city will be supporting them.
They can cost the city a great deal of money with a frivolous lawsuit whether justified or not.
You have to use common sense people.
Keep your personal agendas to yourself.
Slaughter has a great idea what wasn't great about his idea is how he chose to implement it by shoving it down everyones throat without warning.
The bottom line is they did not follow city ordinances and laws and they are now paying for it as for the gentleman who rented the house to them who had to know people were going to have a problem with it.
Oh the house on elm st. has been busted before.
For all these people saying leave them alone why don't you offer your room, your house. You know his name get in touch with him.
I personally wouldn't want that type of house down a few doors from my house.
Ask yourself, if this House of Restoration was so good why did Griffin turn him out, why did Jackson refuse to let him open...
From Bobby Slaughter to the paper....he gets them jobs and then they pay $160 a week, they get $40 spending money then they save the rest for when they can be independent. Do the math, they probably make $6.25 or a little more an hour. Granted their are some that do not pay until he has secured disability for them. One day he said there were never more then eight people not working, the next day AFTER power turned off he only had five working. I personally could not keep what was truth straight.
If this is a good organization then God will bless it and a proper place will be found.
#20 No I think you are do the math 160 X 4 is what oh 640 now if you have a roomate what is that oh maybe its 320 and heck if three of you splurged on a three bedroom wow that is 212 a peice. So whos stupid now.
You may have some valid points but they're lost in that jargon that you typed.
He was issued permits, he was approved permits for a set number of people per home, he exceeded that number of people and he rented additional homes without obtaining the same special use permits.....he said; and I quote from the Minutes of the May 12, 2009 Administrative Hearing held in Griffin "He said that he did not care if they revoked the special use permit for 1324 & 1332, or closed the other houses for operating without having first secured special use permits, because he had already closed down the program and moved it out of Griffin".
Anyone can read the minutes, it’s found by searching google.
Separation of Church and State gives the Church the right to preach without government interference, it does NOT give the Church additional rights and privileges that are not available to the common man. For someone to think they are above the law just because they help people, well it’s wrong. If Pastor Slaughter truly wants to help others then he would be offering a kinder service by following local ordinances so that those poor people wouldn’t get evicted out of every town they try to settle in.
Good intentions, very bad judgment. I am usually the first to speak negatively about how the City of Barnesville chooses to run, but this time I feel the City did what it had to do for the safety of not only the community but also for those actually living in those houses. Fire hazards should NEVER be taken lightly, and fire codes are in place for a reason.
