Due to the recent bank bailouts and the stimulus package, the average American taxpayer has become politically active in a way no one could have anticipated.

Most taxpayers are completely fed up with all political parties and are holding tea parties across the nation as a way to protest our elected officials catering to special interest groups, big banks and corporations instead of listening to us, their constituents. [Full Story »]

Pike County deputies and other authorities are investigating an apparent home invasion at 560 Caldwell Bridge Rd. near Concord July 1 in which a man was reportedly shot to death and his wife savagely beaten.

Pike County coroner Terrell Moody identified the dead man as 60-year-old Jimmie (Buzz) Burousas Jr., son of former Lamar County chief magistrate Jimmie Burousas Sr.

Several Lamar countians took part in a sprint triathlon June 21 at Callaway Gardens. There were a total of 1,200 participants in the event, which included a two mile run, quarter mile swim and 10 mile bike ride.
