Due to complications from a power failure at our Macon, Ga. printing plant, distribution of the 5.22.2012 print edition of The Herald-Gazette will be delayed today.
Subscribers will not be receiving newspapers in the mail Tuesday and distribution to retail outlets and news racks will be late. The e-edition is online and is available at the link at the top right of this page. Print subscribers receive the e-edition free.
This delay is due to problems beyond our control and is the first delay in delivering to our mail subscribers in over 30 years. We apologize for any inconvenience and are working diligently to correct the problem.
After passing a new definition of buildings for its utilities code to limit how long a temporary building can sit in town, Milner city council turned its eye on blighted properties. The new code broadly defines a building and limits those permitted for temporary use to a fourmonth period before it must be hooked up to utilities. [Full Story »]
A $45 million dip in the tax digest caused by mass revaluations of property in the wake of the real estate bust has given the Lamar County board of education a bad case of budget blues. The lowering of the digest could cost it from $300,000 to $800,000. [Full Story »]
Pinta Lodge 88 F&AM will host a golf tournament May 19 at Morgan Dairy Golf Club. The entry fee is $50 per player and includes green and cart fees, lunch and a t-shirt. Cash prizes will be paid out to the top three teams.
