Objectivity – it is the absolute bedrock of science. There is no notion, idea, hypothesis, concept, principle, axiom, maxim, theory, or law more fundamental to science than objectivity. In fact, in the absence of objectivity, science does not exist. Call it what you want, but it ain’t science.
So what happens when scientists in general lose their objectivity? They become anything but scientists – beach bums, flower children, Birkenstock-wearing granola munchers, bearded recluses in self-imposed exile from the outside world. A sad thing indeed.

Dec. 18 crash victim has died
A man seriously injured in a motorcycle crash December 18 on Crawford Road has died. David Taylor, 56, survived a lengthy surgery after being lifeflighted to Atlanta Medical Center but developed pneumonia which killed him on Christmas eve.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Jennifer Taylor of Barnesville, father, David Taylor of Johnstonville and three children. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. [Full Story »]

Body found, arrests made
Jennifer Lynn Clark, ex-wife of Donald Clark, and her boyfriend, Kenneth Michael Yost, have been arrested and charged with murder.
Warrants were signed late Christmas eve afternoon after a body, presumed to be that of Donald Clark, was found at 3:10 p.m. by Lamar County sheriff Joe Buice and Lt. Ronnie Goins on a tract of land in Redbone known as the Tom Rusk dairy that is now owned by Ralph Adamson.
Buice said lead investigator Rick McCreary had obtained murder warrants for Jennifer Clark and Yost and both were taken into custody. Additional charges are likely. [Full Story »]

A 69-year-old white male was seriously injured in a one-car accident Monday night on Cannafax Road. The victim, identifed as Robert Schaber, was lifeflighted to a trauma center.
He suffered a head injury and was unconscious at the scene. The accident occurred in a bad curve near 635 Cannafax Road when the driver lost control and hit a utility pole. He was the only passenger in the vehicle and was partially ejected. [Full Story »]

Cyclist lifeflighted after crash
A Crawford Road man was lifeflighted to Atlanta Medical Center Friday afternoon after a motorcycle accident near his home. David Taylor, 56, was riding a 100cc Kawsaki mini-bike when his coat became entangled in the spokes of a wheel of the bike, causing the crash. Taylor was not wearing a helmet.

Christmas miracle at Monroe Academy
Monroe Academy students and parents were told at a meeting attended by over 400 on Thursday, December 18 that some $400,000 in donations was needed in order to keep the school open through the 2008-2009 school year. Headmaster Martha Krepps told the group borrowing from a bank was not an option because of the economy and the feeling was there was no business plan in place to pay it back.
The school had been in negotiations with Rock Springs Church regarding the purchase of the campus but that deal fell through. [Full Story »]

Jake Sutton returns as Milner police chief
Former Milner police chief Jake Sutton beat out six other candidates interviewed over the past two weeks by Milner city council and will be offered the police chief job beginning in January.
Sutton served as Milner’s chief 15 years. Should he accept the job, he will replace outgoing chief Brad White, who is leaving in January to rejoin the Lamar County sheriff’s office. [Full Story »]

Hawk used for hunting found dead
Barnesville police officer Rex Johnson found this hawk hanging from a tree near his home by a hunting lanyard December 14. The bird had not been dead long, Johnson said. The bird also had leggings. The lanyard was green with an O ring at the end.Jim Ozier of DNR said the bird appears to be a juvenile red-tailed hawk used for falconry.

Scrapyards across nation urged to be on the lookout for Clark vehicle
Working with the Griffin Police Department, Lamar County investigators have issued an alert to scrapyards across the nation to be on the lookout for a car belonging to Donald Clark who has been missing from his Lamar County home since November 18.
"We worked with a contact the Griffin department had to list the car on a national alert system. We appreciate the help," investigator Rick McCreary said Friday. [Full Story »]

Morehouse stands by its man
Assault charges leveled against him here in Lamar County apparently will not impact the career of Morehouse College police chief Vernon Worthy in the short term.

Census jobs available
The U.S. Census Bureau is gearing up for the 2010 count and that means good jobs, thousands of them, are available.
Some 5000 people will be hired in the Macon-Columbus district alone, bureau media specialist Annette Coward told the Barnesville city council December 8.
