Penny McBroom was a woman on a mission. She had just come back from the Atlanta Tea Party with gal pals Wanda Dailey and Lynn McCollough and she was on fire.
'There is something dreadfully wrong with our country', she declared. 'We must stand up for God, country and our Constitution.' McBroom, a Barnesville resident, felt a calling from God. Inspired by the hymn 'Onward Christian Soldiers' she was determined to enlist an army of local volunteers to put together their own local Tea Party.

The Lamar County Trojans lost the field position battle in the third quarter, squandered a 9-0 lead and fell 23-16 victims to the Mary Persons Bulldogs in Forsyth Friday night. The Trojans are now 1-1 against AAA competition and open region play next Friday when they play Spencer High at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

The Ward 4 Barnesville city council race now boasts four candidates after general contractor Bobby York qualified this morning. York, 58, lives at 107 Honeysuckle Drive.
He joins Neal Devane, Calvin Scandrett and Larry Whitworth in the race that will almost assuredly lead to a runoff.
Ward 2 incumbent Chris Hightower also qualified this morning. Hightower, 41, is an educator who lives at 111 B Street. Hightower and fellow incumbent Butch McDaniel of Ward 5 have not yet drawn opposition. Qualifying ends Wednesday. [Full Story »]
After a complete and thorough investigation by the Barnesville Police Department and the Lamar County Sheriff's Office, Haley Standridge will not be charged in connection with any of the burglaries. Haley Standridge will be charged with Possession of Marijuana less than one ounce along with all the other suspects in this case.

UPDATE: Barnesville police investigator Al Moltrum reported this morning that Haley Standridge was questioned with regard to this case and subsequently released. However, the sheriff's department has not yet reported her cleared. Her name was included ina news release from the sheriff and her mug shot was released by the sheriff's department.

A lone white male robbed the Title Cash location at Hwy. 341 and Yatesville Rd. of an undetermined amount of money at approximately 10 a.m. this morning.
Law enforcement personnel are on the scene. There were no injuries.
Authorities have searched the areas of Graham and Johnson streets for the suspect and issued a lookout for a vehicle thought used in the robbery. The vehicle is a white 1989 Chevy Blazer with a busted driver's side window and deer and cobra decals on the rear window. If you spot this vehicle, call 911.
