UPDATE: Following a sighting by a citizen of a white male dressed all in white near a woodline, some units have moved into the area of Pine and Poplar streets and Memorial Drive in Barnesviille to search as of 10:25 p.m.
At 7:15 p.m., the search for 19-year-old Eric Kenneth Coe, who walked away from a Department of Corrections work detail in Barnesville Wednesday afternoon, had shifted sharply westward toward the area of McCollum and Perdue roads.
Also, the charges on which Coe were incarcerated were becoming clearer.
A manhunt is underway for an inmate, Eric Kenneth Coe, who walked away from a state prisoner work detail in Barnesville around 3 p.m.
He was spotted on the railraod tracks at Aldroa shortly after that then apparently took a black Kia which has been found behind Ingles with a flat tire. A Department of Corrections search dog team is enroute and schools were ordered to clear practice fields at 3:39 p.m.
Schools are going on lockdown. Mostly after school athletic practices involved.
UPDATE: A GSP helicopter is now involved in the search which centers around the wetlands trail area. According to radio traffic, a cap worn by the escapee was found

Next year will mark the 40th anniversary of the graduation of my class at Lamar County High School, the Class of 1976. The 1975-76 school year was the first year classes were held at the “new” high school, so we were the first class to graduate from there.
I wasn’t there, though.
Well, I was there for our graduation, but I wasn’t there for our senior year.

The final Movies at the Ritz event of the year will be held Friday, Aug. 14 at Ritz Park on Forsyth Street. The featured movie will be Monsters University and 2015 Miss Buggy Days Katelyn Womack will make a special appearance.
The movie is free to attend and participants may bring blankets and chairs. Festivities begin at 7:45 p.m. and the movie will start around 8:30 p.m. with face painting, popcorn and drinks offered for sale.

Julia Heidbrink, a local field trial dog trainer, is the founder/operator of the Georgians for Trump Facebook page and was interviewed by an Atlanta television station in that role. She still stands behind Trump despite the Megyn Kelly blowup.

Two hometown photography artists, Charlotte Weber and Bill Chamberlain, open their exhibit, ‘Double Vision,’ with the traditional reception Aug. 7 at the Lamar Arts Depot Gallery. Weber, a Barnesville resident and daughter of clay artist Pat Hankins, has had photos in the members’ room at LA several times but this is a first time for her to have the entire Trackside Gallery, she said.
The larger front gallery will show work by Bill Chamberlain of Zebulon, long-time photographer who has had many shows in Atlanta and several solo shows at Pike County’s annual Slow Exposures juried show, directed by his wife Chris Curry. He has a large body of work, painstakingly collected since 1970, that is done strictly with film, he said. [Full Story »]
