Industrial Drive from Roger Brown Road to just beyond Enercon will be closed indefinitely due to a 48" culvert pipe on an old creek bed that has given way under heavy rainfall, according to James Rigdon, Lamar County Public Works director.
Rigdon said he is unsure when the pipe actually gave way: "We were out there working last week and it was fine." The pipe is about 10 feet under the road surface.
The closure will require Enercon and Jordan Forest Products to access their properties via Grove Street off Old Milner Road. Landfill trucks and Rayonier traffic can access on Fellowship Drive, Rigdon said.
"Until this rain lets up, we can't determine the cause, but we do have replacement pipe. It will be at least Monday (Dec. 28) before we can do anything. Water does some strange things," he added.
