Barnesville city council named councilwoman Anne Claxton the mayor pro tem during a brief meeting Jan. 11. She takes the place of longtime mayor pro tem Lynn Wilson, who did not run for re-election last year.

"If I'm not mistaken, she's the first female mayor pro tem in the history of Barnesville," said mayor Peter Banks. [Full Story »]

The second annual Dewaine T. Bell Memorial Chili Cook Off will be held in the high school cafeteria Thursday, Oct. 29. The time is set from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. but last year the cook off sold out of chili in the first hour.
