The reddish waters of the metro Atlanta flood continued to rescind Wednesday, leaving many Georgians knee-deep in mud and quite uncertain about their future.

Over the weekend and lasting into Tuesday, the floods struck neighborhoods from rural Cherokee County to the northern suburb of Buckhead, taking ten lives and causing an estimated $250 million in damages. [Full Story »]

Despite afternoon showers and overhead clouds yesterday Buggy Days continued on.

At 2 p.m. hundreds of community residents and tourists alike lined the streets from College Drive to Forsyth Street and down Main Street to watch almost 100 floats and organizations in the annual Buggy Days parade.

As 3 p.m drew near a few sprinkles came from the sky and the faint of heart seemed to be packing up. [Full Story »]

With the forecast still calling for showers all day over Middle Georgia hundreds of runners, joggers, hobbyists, walkers and cheering sections rallied at Summers Field by 8:00 a.m. for the annual Buggython Road Race.

The Buggython benefits local school athletics and is sponsored by local businesses. Included were a 5K, 10K and fun walk.

Crossing the finish line first in the 5K with a time of 19:31 was Jeff Keady. Following just behind him was Chris Trivette and Brent Kilby.

The Masters (50+) overall 5K winner was David Williams. [Full Story »]

Despite the threat of rain all day and the eventual downpouring that turned Summers Field into Summers Lake, the 'Anything Goes' games went on despite all.

With events such as the three-legged race, egg relay, water balloon toss, tug-o-war and football catch nearly 250 people showed up to either participate in or support the games.

Taking first place was the Attack Soccer Team while Bankston Lumber came in a very close second. Rounding out the top three was Lamar County Primary School.

While rain and scattered thunderstorms are still in the forecast for middle Georgia the 'Street Dance' scheduled for tonight has been promised to go on "rain or shine."

Tempted by his love for a good liver dinner David Howard Knight returned to Garden Patch at 100 Southland Drive where just two weeks ago he admittedly stole a pressure washer owned by the restaurant.

David Reeves, owner of the restaurant recognized Knight and called police.

As a rotating crowd of nearly 200 assembled throughout the day Saturday at the Lamar Co. Elementary School as a total of 79 babies, toddlers, pre-teens and teen girls - all anxious and nervous but all beautiful - took to the stage in the hopes of being named part of the Miss Buggy Days court.

Judging the contestants were Walter Banks, Mia Johnson and Marchia Merkins.

On hand to crown the girls was Miss Sweetheart Georgia, Madison Banks.

And as Kirsten Fisher was crowned Miss Buggy Days 2009 so began this years Buggy Days festival!

A few of the individual contestant sponsors were First National Bank, United Bank, Goggan's Florist, the Rumble Seat Inn and State Farm. [Full Story »]

The first wrestling match in Barnesville since 1974 came into town Saturday night attracting 721 adults and children to the gate.

Hosted by the Lamar County recreation department and sponsored by Top Rope Entertainment, the evening saw WWE legends such as Indestructible Jay Batista, One Warrior Nation, The Nature Boy Chic Donovan and hometown favorite Big Steel. [Full Story »]

Brooklyn-born woodturner Alan Stirt will be demonstrating his craft at the Barnesville woodturners meeting on Tuesday September 15 at 7 p.m.

Stirt earned his Bachelor of Arts degree at Harpur College - State University of New York in 1969 before embarking on a career that has placed his work in such galleries as the American Craft Museum (New York, NY), Detroit Institute of Arts (Detroit, MI), White House Permanent Collection (Washington DC) and Woodturning Center (Philadelphia, PA). OSW wrestling takes over Rec. Dept. gym TONIGHT

Professional wrestling will come to the recreation department gym on Saturday, Sept. 12. Tickets will be available only at the door. General admission is $5 and ringside seats are $10.

Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. and the bell will ring at 7:45 p.m. for the School’s In Session event.
