Lamar County Family Connection Collaborative is currently conducting a Community Assessment. The assessment includes surveying 5th Grade students, Middle and High School Students, Gordon College dormitory students, Providers and Adults to gather ideas about the types of issues that concern Lamar County residents.

The Provider Survey is to gather information on Needs and Barriers to services from front-line community service providers who have daily contact with residents.

Apostle Bobby Anderson Slaughter pleaded not guilty in Barnesville municipal court Tuesday, Aug. 25, on a total of 15 charges of various zoning code violations stemming from his now shut down House of Restoration halfway houses on Atlanta Street. Each charge carries a recommended fine of $300 for a total of $4,500. [Full Story »]

Apostle Bobby Slaughter will go before municipal court today, Aug. 25, to challenge 15 counts of zoning code violations related to three halfway houses his ministry were operating here as House of Restoration.

Miracle Faith Center Coming Together opened what it called a salvation program in June, resulting in an uproar from Atlanta Street neighbors who objected to large numbers of unrelated people living at 306, 315 and 245 Atlanta St. Slaughter and his wife Brenda were in charge of the homes. Gordon College is expecting record enrollment that could well exceed 4000 students. Classes began yesterday.

GC president Larry Weill told the Barnesville-Lamar County Industrial Development Authority projections were enrollment would be up 17% over last fall when enrollment was about 3800. [Full Story »]

Gordon College welcomed more than 4,400 students Monday as classes began. More than 1,000 students are living on campus. It was business as usual on campus this morning despite a bomb threat that shook the campus Sunday evening.

LAMAR COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE

On August 16 at 5:35 PM a call was received in Lamar County E911 that threatened a bomb on the Gordon College Campus. The caller provided no details of the bomb location. The Gordon College Campus Police and Plant Operations were the first on the scene, followed shortly by the Barnesville/ Lamar County Fire Department. Units from the Lamar County Sheriff's Office, Barnesville Police, a Grifin Police Department canine unit, the Georgia State Patrol, and Lamar County Emergency Management responded within minutes to isolate the campus and begin searching for the device.

Accident victim Hayes has died

Paul Hayes of 431 Crawford Rd. passed away this afternoon at 1:50pm.

Following an accident at the intersection of highways 341 and 18 in Barnesville Hayes was taken to Spalding with a broken back, collapsed lungs and severe brain injury.
