Organizers and an army of volunteers are gearing up for the 8th annual Barnesville BBQ & Blues Festival.

Once again, the mettle of Lamar County’s tornado survivors astounds and inspires us.

They were tested as none of us can imagine but they are literally rejoicing after the rubble. The post-tornado storm of paperwork threatened to inundate more than one survivor family -- bureaucracies, government or private sector, seem compelled to make it harder for people to recover.

Ghost Out warning

Mid Georgia Ambulance and Lamar County agencies hosted a drunk driving simulation, called a Ghost Out, the Wednesday before prom to highlight the dangers of drinking and driving at the high school. The Lamar County fire department, Barnesville police department and other local public safety agencies – even life flight, the coroner’s office and Williams Funeral Home – responded as if it were a real mass casualty incident. Volunteers gearing up for Great Day of Service
