Felicia Vereen has been promoted to the position of manager of the Barnesville Civic Center.

She replaces Buddy Lanier who is leaving the center next week to serve as Lamar County recreation director.

An unusually wet March brought major drought relief to north Georgia. Only the Lake Lanier and Lake Hartwell basins were left in drought. The remainder of north Georgia was drought-free.

Sheriff Larry Waller announced today that this morning at 4:30 am 85 law enforcement officers from the Lamar, Spalding, Upson and Monroe County Sheriff's Office; the Barnesville, Thomaston, Milner, and Griffin Police Department; the Multi-County Narcotics Task Force; the Towaliga Circuit District Attorney's Office; the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Georgia Department of Corrections; the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Marshall's Service, in a coordinated effort, made arrests for crack cocaine of 19 suspects of illegal drug sales.
