The Gordon State College women's soccer team will be making its second straight playoff appearance Tuesday in the first round of the 2013 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association tournament. The Highlanders will face Middle Georgia State College at 6 p.m. in Cochran. The winner advances to play Darton State College in Albany on Nov. 1. The loser is eliminated.
Lamar County continues its quest for a third consecutive Region 4-AA title this week when they host Monticello at Thunder Alley. The Trojans are 5-0 for the season and 2-0 in region play.

The Flint River Council of the Boy Scouts will hold a Loop-o-Ree Saturday, Oct. 5, at the recreation department. The event will include archery and baseball range, flag football, hiking, art, map and compass, marbles and ultimate Frisbee.

The Lamar County Trojans traveled to Zebulon Friday to take on the Pike County Pirates in the annual Battle of Potato Creek and came away with a 41-14 win. Lamar led 41-0 before Pike scored twice on the Trojan reserves. The fourth quarter was played with a running clock under GHSA mercy rules.

The Lamar County Trojans came on to defeat Eagles Landing 28-7 after a bizarre first half in McDonough Friday night. Lamar took a successful short range field goal off the scoreboard after a penalty against EL deep in Eagle territory but failed to capitalize.
