In a battle of unbeaten middle school football teams, Lamar County and Clifton Ridge met at Trojan Field last week in what many thought might be a contest down to the wire.

Somebody forgot to tell LCMS. They dismantled the visitors from Gray 52-12 to assure themselves a spot in post-season play.

The Trojans erased any doubt early on as Lance Austin returned the opening kickoff 75 yards, untouched, for a touchdown. Miquavius Searcy added the two-point PAT and LCMS led 8-0 14 seconds into the game.

Lamar County assured itself a home play-in game this week with a pair of wins last week. The Lady Trojans beat Spencer 18-0 on Senior Day then knocked off Callaway 17-1 in LaGrange.

Lamar recreation soccer teams saw plenty of action during the last days of September.

Saturday, Sept. 26

The U8 Lamar Knights lost to the Pike Fury 6-2. Scoring for Lamar was Tionna Thomas and Sam MacWilliams with one goal each.

The U10 Lamar Heat Wave defeated the Griffin Hawks 6-5. Adam Basso scored three goals, Wade Castleberry made two and Charles Adkerson scored one.

The U10 Lady Panthers lost to Pike Leopards 7-2. Scoring for the Panthers were Katelyn O'Conner and Skylar Bedgood.

The U10 Attack defeated the Pike Tigers 7-2. Scoring were Micheal Tenney and Winfred Dixon with hat tricks and Trey Hammond with one goal.

The U12 Lamar Waves defeated the Clayton County Storm 3-2. Amber Castleberry scored two goals and Alexis Welch scored the winning goal in the last few seconds of the game.

The U12 Lamar Lighting defeated the Sacred Heart Vikings 7-3. Chand-ler Bingham, Arturo Lopez, Jacob Ma-son, Payne Ogletree and Sam Wilson all had goals. Steve Lopez scored two. Josh Wall played great in the goal and Ben Seleb played great defense. Trevor James and William Smith-Thomas gave great support on offense.

The U14 Lamar Attack defeated Middle Georgia 4-0. Katherine Black-mon, Katie Jo Daniel, May Melton Geiger and Sydney Tenney each scored a goal.

The U19 United lost to the Peachtree City Fire 9-4. Travis Andrews had a hat trick and Jose Garcia scored a goal.

Trojan Field will host the biggest game in its short history October 9 when Lamar County hosts the Callaway Cavaliers. The two teams are atop the region standings at 3-0.

The U6 Thunder defeated the Thunder Cats 6-1. Scoring for Thunder were Cody O'Conner with four goals and Mason Bushby with two. Scoring for the Thunder Cats was Azucena Guzman.

The U6 Wild Cats tied the Fire Ants 3-3. Scoring for the Wildcats was Christian Hernandez with two goals and Jackson Callaway with one. Scoring for the Fire Ants was Maggie Calvert with a hat trick.

The Lamar County Lady Trojans are 8-10 on the softball diamond after splitting four games over the past two weeks. That stretch included winning one of three region games to go to 1-2 in 5AA.

Lamar was shut out on the road by the top two teams in the region, falling to Pike County 2-0 in Zebulon and to Heard County 15-0 in Franklin.

Cross Country team competes in Hampton

The Lamar County Trojans cross country teams competed in the Decision Bridge Invitational in Hampton Saturday, Sept. 12. Team results were not available but individual results are as follows:
For the varsity boys, David Henry led the way with a personal best 19:11 for 45th overall in the race. He was followed by Walker Ozier 20:07 (69th), Andre Dalianas 20:37 (76th), Daniel Huggins 20:41 (79th), Brandon Cowart 21:07 (86th), Patrick Powers 22:26 (97th) and Marc English 25:05 (104th).

The varsity girls were paced by Annie Hudgins 28:46 (84th) followed by Kirsten Fisher 28:48 (85th) personal record, Courtney Coates 29:16 (86th), Emily Hobbs 29:25 (87th) personal record and Savannah Turner 30:19 (93rd).

The offensive player of the week award was actually given to the entire offensive line.

The Trojan offensive squad paved the way for 280 yards rushing and 100 yards passing.

Lamar County Middle School opened its football season here last week with an impressive 40-14 win over Gray Station at Trojan Field.

After a 71 yard touchdown run by Micquavious Searcy was negated by a penalty, the first of three long touchdown runs called back for flags on the Trojans, Lawrence Austin scored from 32 yards out.

Searcy added the two-point conversion to give LCMS an 8-0 lead.

On the Greyhounds' next possession Searcy blocked a punt. Lance Austin picked it up and returned 25 yards for a touchdown.

Lawrence Austin scored for Lamar on the next possession on a 46 yard run. Lance Austin found Tyler Scandrett open for the two point conversion to give the Trojans a 22-0 lead.

Gray Station fumbled the ensuing kick and Searcy recovered for LCMS. Searcy scored from five yards out later in the possession. [Full Story »]
