The Lamar County Trojans host the Mary Persons Bulldogs in the home opener Friday night at Trojan Field.
The two teams have always been rivals but this game took on added significance after last year’s debacle in Forsyth.
MP built a 29-13 lead but Lamar came roaring back and cut the margin to 29-27. The Trojans were lining up for a two-point conversion at the 1:53 mark of the third period when an MP administrator ran onto the field and halted the game due to lightning. Lightning was visible but well off in the distance.
The game never resumed though the lightning abated. LC never got to try the PAT, lost its appeal to the GHSA and the game went down as a 29-27 loss.
You can bet the bitter taste of highway robbery will be in the Trojans’ mouths when they take the field Friday night.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
