Fans will have a chance to help kick off the Gordon College basketball season with a “Meet the Teams Night” Thursday, Oct. 15 at 8 p.m.
The men’s team and the women’s club team will each play a short scrimmage with the cheerleaders and the SWAZI steppers performing at halftime. The event is free and open to the public.
“We’re looking at a good year with a lot of new players with solid high school experience,” said Israel Ingle, coach of the men’s and women’s teams. “We have three returning players as well as six players topping 6’5” or taller.”

In a battle of unbeaten middle school football teams, Lamar County and Clifton Ridge met at Trojan Field last week in what many thought might be a contest down to the wire.
Somebody forgot to tell LCMS. They dismantled the visitors from Gray 52-12 to assure themselves a spot in post-season play.
The Trojans erased any doubt early on as Lance Austin returned the opening kickoff 75 yards, untouched, for a touchdown. Miquavius Searcy added the two-point PAT and LCMS led 8-0 14 seconds into the game. [Full Story »]
Lamar recreation soccer teams saw plenty of action during the last days of September.
Saturday, Sept. 26
The U8 Lamar Knights lost to the Pike Fury 6-2. Scoring for Lamar was Tionna Thomas and Sam MacWilliams with one goal each.
The U10 Lamar Heat Wave defeated the Griffin Hawks 6-5. Adam Basso scored three goals, Wade Castleberry made two and Charles Adkerson scored one.
The U10 Lady Panthers lost to Pike Leopards 7-2. Scoring for the Panthers were Katelyn O'Conner and Skylar Bedgood.
The U10 Attack defeated the Pike Tigers 7-2. Scoring were Micheal Tenney and Winfred Dixon with hat tricks and Trey Hammond with one goal.
The U12 Lamar Waves defeated the Clayton County Storm 3-2. Amber Castleberry scored two goals and Alexis Welch scored the winning goal in the last few seconds of the game.
The U12 Lamar Lighting defeated the Sacred Heart Vikings 7-3. Chand-ler Bingham, Arturo Lopez, Jacob Ma-son, Payne Ogletree and Sam Wilson all had goals. Steve Lopez scored two. Josh Wall played great in the goal and Ben Seleb played great defense. Trevor James and William Smith-Thomas gave great support on offense.
The U14 Lamar Attack defeated Middle Georgia 4-0. Katherine Black-mon, Katie Jo Daniel, May Melton Geiger and Sydney Tenney each scored a goal.
The U19 United lost to the Peachtree City Fire 9-4. Travis Andrews had a hat trick and Jose Garcia scored a goal.
The middle school Trojans continued to march through their schedule, pummeling Byron 52-0 here last week. LCMS, now 3-0 for the season, hosts Clifton Ridge of Gray Wednesday afternoon at 5 p.m. at Trojan Field. [Full Story »]
