At the Friday, Aug. 14 scrimmage game against Rutland, Fort Benning's official parachute demonstration team - the Silver Wings - will jump into Trojan Field at approximately 6:30 p.m., demonstrating their elite parachuting skills while delivering the game ball to Trojan head coach Jason Strickland at the 50 yard line. The Lamar County Trojans spent last week at football camp and it was 48 hours of intense preparation for the upcoming season.

“Camp went really well. We had about 60 guys out and they worked extremely hard. It was great to have them here and focus on football 12 hours a day for four days. There is just not another situation where they can be here and learn as much as they did last week,” head coach Jason Strickland reported.

Strickland’s coaching staff got their offense and defense installed and challenged their players.

Marvin Alspach had a dream weekend June 13-15 at Michigan International Speedway as the longtime race fan announced the big words at Saturday's Michigan 200 NASCAR truck race.

That was, indeed, Lamar County's own Alspach, serving as grand marshal, announcing at the start of the race: "Gentlemen, start your engines!" [Full Story »]

Lamar County High tennis coach David Strobel will be hosting a tennis camp for aspiring players aged 6-9 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. and aged 10-13 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Both camps take place from July 20-24.

Several Lamar countians took part in a sprint triathlon June 21 at Callaway Gardens. There were a total of 1,200 participants in the event, which included a two mile run, quarter mile swim and 10 mile bike ride.
