Just prior to his election in 2008, Barack Obama promised a “fundamental transformation of America.” What was he talking about? He was referring to remaking America in the model of European social democracy. He was talking about progressivism.

Progressivism is a political ideology to the left of traditional Democrat liberalism (think San Francisco). American progressives support very steep progressive taxation, organized labor and government unions and a government-run universal health care system.

The words “Never Forget” have been used because of many hateful events, the Holocaust and the 9/11 attack being among the most notable. I have my own dark day that will not be forgotten; though the day was too horrible to contemplate, its tragedy brought a certain enduring light into my life.

That day was Sept. 15, 1963. Next year it will be 50 years since the bombing of the Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala., when four young girls were killed and many injured during the Sunday school hour. Three of the girls – Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson and Cynthia Wesley – were 14 years old. Denise McNair was 11. [Full Story »]

I had not lived hereabouts for long when I was invited by the Barnesville Bulldog Club to go on its first ever bus trip – a men only excursion that kicked off a series of legendary trips.

That inaugural journey was to Knoxville, Tennessee where some 40 of us had the privilege to watch as Herschel Walker pounded Bill Bates into dust en route to his first touchdown as a Dawg. The TSPLOST referendum failed miserably in all but three regions of Georgia as well it should have.

The horrific shootings by a lone crazed gunman have predictably brought the gun ban politicians out of the woodwork. Salt, trans-fat, soda drink size activist and New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg demanded, “It’s time the two people who want to be president of the United States stand up and tell us what they are going to do about it… (gun laws)” Sen. Frank Lautenberg D-N.J., always an expert on the U.S. Constitution opined, “these types of tragedies will continue to occur unless we do something about our nation’s lax gun laws.” [Full Story »]
