Very much in agreement Theresa. One would think the oh so wonderful Lamar County Herald Gazette would be a little more classy and respectful with their headlines.
The headline is Woman hits, tragically kills own fiancé; driver identified which is factual and the word tragically implies empathy. What would your headline have been given the same real estate? Something went wrong which caused this incident. Brakes failing or an act of God would imply an accident. There was negligence, although unintentional, on the part of someone which caused this death and as it was headlined appropriately as tragic....which it is. I don't think there was any mal intent on the part of Mr. Geiger or staff. There are only so many ways you can put something into words.
I think they were referring to the headline that was posted when the article was first put up before it was updated. And no where in the initial post did it say anything about it being a tragedy.
Did you ever think that maybe at the time when the paper was made aware they only knew the immediate facts and had no idea of the details until later? As in streaming media.....details become available and headlines/reports change. Unless you always speak immediate facts, are perfect and know all.....you may want to not be so quick to judge and call out those who report the news as best they know it.
The newspaper can always use volunteers to help with the work !!
