Lewis is missed.

He is especially missed at this time of year when the footballs have started flying on the practice fields over in Athens.

Barnesville has more UGA fans than GT fans that's for sure. I speak for the majority.....

I am sure Lewis is watching with wings and a slightly crooked halo from somewhere up above. I don't think it's likely he would miss a season and I am sure Catfish is by his side.

I was fortunate enough to have one evening with Lewis. It was after a book signing and he invited me to go out with him afterward. I even had him talked into creating a Greeting Card line. I suggested that he call it "Grits Greetings." We created some hilarious ones right there in the restaurant on napkins. He left with the idea, the napkins, and a super positive opinion about our plan. But God called for Lewis and Catfish first. I miss Lewis.

How I miss Lewis! My dad admired his humor and enjoyed him so much that I always bought his books as a Christmas gift to my dad. I remember one of them vividly, "Don't sit under the grits tree with anyone else but me." I miss Lewis and I miss my dad also.

I'm not a football fan. Why is everyone, or mostly everyone a Georgia fan? Why are people not Georgia Tech fans? Didn't Georgia Tech whip the hell out of Georgia last year?

My wifes mother was married to Lewis during the height of his fame (his third wife.) She says Lewis prior to becoming such a big UGA fan was an equal large Tech fan until Tech fired his very good friend Pepper Rodgers. Of course, she tells everyone there was another reason he quit Tech but you are going to have to read her book "How To Tame a Wild Boar & Other Interesting Facts of Life with Lewis" to find out.

There's a million reasons why, so I'll only give you the short list of why there are more UGA fans than there are GT.

1. You'll eventually get shot, shot at, mugged, or car jacked in downtown Atlanta where their campus is located. Would you want your son or daughter to have to deal with that worry everyday? No one has to worry about that happening in Athens.

2. Their stadium can only hold roughly 50,000 people and they can't even sell that many tickets. UGA's stadium holds over 92,000 and you can't get a ticket unless you're willing to pay big money. UGA fans could and would out number the GT fans in their own stadium.

3. GT did win last year and it was only by 3 points and the first time they've beat UGA in the last 7-8 years (I stopped counting after 4-5 in a row).

4. #1 Reason: UGA is the flagship university in the state of Georgia. Go Dawgs!

That book sucks...don't waste your money people. The best part of it is when Lewis wrote a blurb for her on the back, it went something like this, "This is the best book ever written by one of my ex-wives." Keep your money. That is the only good line. Lewis' book titles are better than her entire book.

I forgot about this, I asked Lewis what was his most memorable column. He laughed and said. "It was the day after Georgia lost a game to Tech." Lewis wrote one sentence above a big blank white space in the paper. The sentence read, "Frankly, I don't want to talk about it.”

It was well-known that Lewis did not enjoy his time in Chicago writing for The Chicago Sun Times. He referred to it as being held Prison-Of War in Chicago.

Had it worked out on the greeting cards, this is one of them that I offered that night in the restaurant.

Cover: Honey, I love you so much that if our jobs required us to move to Chicago.....

Inside: I would give you my coat and write to you often.

Read about goings-on in The Pike County Journal and The Herald-Gazette, evidently Georgia has plenty of Hell left in it.

A few reasons to be a Tech fan
1.Ga Tech 4 national titles Ga 3 we can remember the last one Tech had 1990 Ga 1980
2.Most wins in a row between the two schools Ga tech 8 wins in a row Ga 7
3.Ga tech 15 confrence titles Ga 14
4.Ga tech 45 Ga 42
Whats the good word"To Hell With Ga"
How bout them dogs "Piss on um"
