The office at the Lamar County recreation department office was burglarized overnight Aug. 19 and the concession stand and scoring tower were broken into over the Aug. 22 weekend.
Soccer coordinator Tiffany Lowe said the door to athletic director Buddy Lanier's office was kicked open and a drawer was broken on one of the desks during the first break-in. The thief or thieves removed an unused window air conditioner to take a safe which holds the department's cash. Lowe said the safe contained "checks from an old account, credit cards and other than that, nothing really."

just sayin'
I noticed that the young adults and older adults have a co ed softball league going on. I was wanting to get in the next one but people tell me that the Athletic director was ready for the league to be over 2 weeks after it started. Could it really cost that much money to chalk a field and let people play. You have to cut the grass anyway. Why gripe about cutting it so that ball games can be played on it. Inmates can cut it.. maybe one gallon of gas is what the mower would use to cut that field in 10 minutes.
If you cant handle the stuff either step down or put 40% of it on the assistant director. I have faith in Mr. Lanier but its steady going down.
Im ending my rant for now. Look for me at some of the county meetings though. Something needs to change.
Oh but they have some new vehicles to ride in though.
1: last time at rec dept: yesterday and the day before and the day before.. so on.
2: Meet new director.. Known him for 25 years probably
3:Coach a team: currently. I havnt however signed up random children and paid their entry fees. you got me there.
Re read the second paragraph on #10. I think all of that just went over your head. I know that things have to be straightend out from John but you cant stop activities. There should be softball year round for the adults of the community. They arent interested in it even though it is a community complex. It dont matter that each team has to pay 500ish bucks to cover all this junk that they say. Thats fine. It still seems to be an issue. Back many years ago (15 or 20) softball used to be a big thing here in barnesville. The community has players and teams that want to sign up. The rec only wants to do it for 1.5 months to keep the fuss to a minimum. Why not 9.5 months. Have a co-ed league and then a mens league. Then tournaments throughout. They want the fields to be used for other sports instead of what they were built for. Go out there and be on a field and let the football teams show up. You want to bet that you get ran off. Public park, public fields, cant play because of football practice on a baseball or softball field.
EXPLAIN!!!!!!!!
I ran one myself for a couple of years. I bet if they were pulling inmates from the GDC centers instead of the LC jail, the prison system would put a stop to it. They listen to music and sit in front of a fan most of the day. They may help out on the track field when there is something special going on. They may walk around and pick up a little trash with a trash bag but there is way more that needs to be tended to out there.
As far as the softball goes. I think it's a great idea to have a coed and then a men's league. I don't know however, how that exactly works. From what I understand, the teams pay to play in the league and that is to the Rec. The Rec keeps the fields lined, lights on, they get the officials, and they have to have someone from the staff to be out there so they are paid.
Using the facilities....... Yes, they are public facilities, but they do have Rec programs going on. The football teams have a schedule of practice times and the place where they practice. If you want to use the fields to practice softball then I suggest you call the Rec and schedule the days and times you want. If you have it shceduled then you would have first choice to use it, however, if a football team has it scheduled then yes, they have priority over that space at that time. I have used the fields several times (other than for coaching) and I have never run into a problem.
I do say that if you have an issue or any questions with the scheduling or playing in the softball leagues, that you are free to go by the Rec office and speak to Buddy at anytime. Nothing will get "fixed" blogging about it.
As for the comment about Buddy only being for footbal....... He may be a big football fan, but I truely believe Buddy is out there to push the ENITRE Rec Department and ALL sports/programs that they have. He's out there for the youth of this community, not to boost football.
They turn lights on for all other sports. What makes adult softball any different. I cant play football at my age. I cant play competitive basketball at my age. I sure as crap dont skate. Ive never been a fan of tennis. I do however like softball and play with people even older than myself.
They pay the umps for basketball, little league baseball, football etc. There is nothing that they have to do extra for softball that they dont have to do for any other sport. Actually they probably have to do less.
As far as the fields. You cannot use the fields during football season. They have assigned fields to be on during certian days. You can call and reserve the field for after football season is over.
Lets ride out there thursay @ 6pm for a "mock softball practice" and see how quick we get ran off.
As for Buddy being there for the youth. That is the issue. That is great and all but he needs to be there for the rest of the community also. Other surrounding counties have adult stuff except us. They just started doing a 1.5 month co-ed thing last year. Where is that been the past 8 years.
He cant have games during football season im telling you. They have the fields occupied. How can you have a game on tues and thurs when football is going on there on the field.
This week is the last week for softball. Try to play or practice softball next week and see what happens!
Yes it is football season. They have ants in their pants they are so ready for it to be over.
I dont want anything for free. Never expected anything for free in my life. Practice football elsewhere other than the dang softball fields. Ive heard that there are teams that are wanting to continue after this week even though the rec dont want to do it. practices and scrimmages i guess is what they are planning on. Rec dont want to have organized setting for Adult softball after this week until next year (maybe).
There was an Adult league last year and still same issues. Play a few games to shut everyone up and get the heck off the field.
All im saying is 5 teams can practice on the track area and there is a huge area at the old barnesville Academy area to practice on. There is a big baseball field that only 13 and 14 year olds use and they arent playing. Softball players want to continue but cant. Field is taken. they have enough area to practice 15-20 fields but choose to use a field that is still in use and run other people off of it. He knows that they want to continue with softball. Through the rec or not the teams want to continue.
Buddy already said he wasnt gonna do it anymore this year. He was ready for it to be over 2 weeks after it started. End of discussion about that part of it. Same story diffent page.
The Jail is full of people..People that have broken the law.
Maybe if some of you get to know these men better and you would feel better about the county/city you live in. Just my 2 cents
And how is Sheriff Waller doing since his health setback? Back to work full time one would hope?
The criminals don't appear to be slowing down, so I certainly hope my tax dollars are not going for less than 100% performance from Lamar County's chief law enforcement officer.
What about it Scoop? Check in our illustrious Sheriff for a progress report.
