Jamie, it's not called KinderGordon by anyone with half a brain or half a notion of respect. It's called Gordon State College, and it's now a Baccheloriate institution. Before that it was Gordon College, and before that it was Gordon Military College, and it has served this state and this country for 150 years. Its graduates have served in national and international government posts and have contributed greatly to the world at large. On a local level, it is the lone reason that most people actually pull off of I-75 and spend time and money in Lamar County.
i read the above article. im a little lost on where you are getting the information to call the school Gordon State College. as far as i am aware, its Gordon College. has there been an article posted about the renaming of Gordon that perhaps i havent read?
The name has not changed in an official sense, but its distinction has. Gordon is now a State College, as opposed to a Junior College, because it offers four-year degrees.
Gordon is great for Barnesville and Lamar County. I would like the sound of Gordon University. I would like to see them continue to grow and perhaps become a fully accredited medical school. The best! When is Lamar County going to build a hospital? You know every major hospital doesn’t have to be in a major city. The right hospital would attract the right staff and the right staff would attract people nation wide. A hospital can be for all but can specialize too. Specialization and research! Where's the vision?
Close. The name is still Gordon College. Gordon's school type is now a State College. Before the 4 year education degree it was a Two-Year College. The types of schools in the University System are Research Universities, Regional Universities, State Universities, State Colleges, Two-Year Colleges and Research Units. Look at http://www.usg.edu/inst/map.phtml for more.
If you want additional funding for Gordon College to build and staff facilities like a hospital, then you need to write to the legislature and the governor. Over the past seven years, the university system has been so injured by budget cuts that it can barely carry out its current mission.
I find the term "KinderGordon" not only highly inaccurate, but offensive.
No one said Gordon should fund and build it. The approach is simple. A hospital authority could be assembled and appointed to get the ball rolling. One of the largest obstacles is demonstrating and justifying a need, and making a determination of the overall vision. So many in the county wish to remain in the dark ages and are afraid of growth. I would think that a tiny hospital would be a waste of time because of the surrounding hospitals. I would think the eye should be targeted toward the nation. Take a look at the specialized care facilities located in only certain parts of the nation.
Yeah! They criticized Galileo too.
