Most of what he said makes sense. The question is, can that bunch of slugs on both sides of the aisle in Washington do anything productive, open, and honest?
I can't believe some would truly support wellness centers taking "end of life decisions" out of the hand of the people, and putting it into the hand of the government. People should consider that they will also one day be a senior, or could suffer from an illness the government deems "terminal" and therefore not worthy of approving "life saving" or "making life more comfortable" measures.
My FIL had heart surgery at 70, he is now close to 100.....30 additional, wonderful, fabulous years were given to him thanks to the surgery.
Under this bill, he would have most likely been sent home to die. If he was lucky he would have gotten some pain pills (if there were funding to allow it) to ease his pains.
That's what Obama's "Cutting Costs" part of the speech was about....read the bill at Thomas.gov.
Can he drive and walk? Can he Remember and comprehend? Cook and eat alone? Go to the Bathroom alone? Sometimes we can harm a person more if they can't do for themselves!
Are you really so obtuse? Read the legislation. It call(ed) for counseling on the subject. You know, you and your doctor sit down and discuss what your concerns & desires are ahead of time, so you can actually make the decisions about what happens to you when you become an old, inchoerrent, drooling vegetable, an not have some make those decisions for you when the time comes and you are unable to make them for yourself. It did NOT give some autonimuos bureaucrat the power to decide whether old people live or die based on thier age and health conditions. It's lazy, cowardly people like you, who rant & rave without having even read the actual legislation, that stir up so much dissention in our society. Get off your sorry butt and go read the bill. Maybe then you'll have something constructve to say.
Why are we still having this conversation. The people have said no and the House says they don't give a damn and want to ram it down everyones throat. The intelligent people read the bill and say no way. The stupid people just belive whatever is thrown at them. The represenatives are not going to listen and many will exceed their bounds and act against the peoples that they represent instruction. Those are the people not worthy to fill leadership positions. We can start voting them out of office next year. And it is going to happen.
For lots of you out there - quite being so gullible and read the bill.
3.1 Yes he drives, walks, cooks, cleans etc. He is very healthy and active.
3.2 You obviously have not read the bill, I have, many times. The "mandatory" consultations are so the Physician can determine what is best for you, NOT so you or your family can determine what's best for you. And since this physician will be reporting to a special "secretary" who has not yet been assigned, and must follow the guidelines set by the "Govermental" secretary.....well that's the big picture there.
Will the Physician respect YOUR wishes or the Governments? Do you really think a Physician will put his career on the line or take the chance of being fined or jailed to put YOUR wishes first?
If you do truly think that, then you obviously can't comprehend what you read very well. Or you're just basing your statements on "heresay" and know nothing about what is actually in the Bill.
What he said was great but it is not possible. How is it possible to insure every person in the US, mandate free procedures, require acceptance of preexisting conditions, & create an entire government beauracry to watch over it all, and it not cost taxpayers a dime. There is no way that is possible. And if he is going to pay through all this by eliminating waste and fraud, why doesn't he eliminate all that waste and fraud now. I think Joe Wilson summed up Obama's speech best, "He lied."
It isn’t that difficult to enforce. I believe EVERYBODY should have health insurance if you want it or not. If you don’t have it and get hurt somebody’s got to pay and it should be who receives the service and not you or me. It should be determined if you have health care insurance when filing your income tax. If you don’t have it then it comes out of your return or gets added to what you have yet to pay. The profit in care for the sick should be put back into the industry. I see it as the same principle as a credit union compared to the monster mega bank. If most all the industrialized countries can do this it can be that difficult.
lets see now! "Most" (not all) of the people that don't have health insurance are mostly those that don't have the education to capture a job that can afford the benefits. So many of them get earned income credit on their taxes. That is they get refunds and don't pay anything in to the system. It was probably their fault that they didn't get the education. Now with no insurance and pissing away an education then getting free insurance and free tax refunds seems to be a double reward for self destruction. Those that did work hard must pay the reward. Am I the only one that has a problem with this.
If those that work to pay their reward must sacrifice then those collecting the reward should to. If they get the insurance they can not collect the earned income credit. At least that will help pay for it and I betya that will make lots of people not so interested in it any more. We can see how many really are wanting insurance and how many just want another handout.
There are too many people on this earth anyway. Let natural selection handle it. We are worried about global warming anyways right? A few million less people cant hurt.
3.3 You are a truly disturbing individual. Our seniors are our wealth. Not money, not land, not corporations. Their minds hold so much information that one can never get from books alone.
The stories they share, with sadness, excitement, anger....nothing beats sitting down with a senior and listening to him or her share what they know, how they lived, how the world was back when they were younger.
We are always learning, every day we learn something new. We would not have this wealth of information if it were not handed down to us by the older generation (books, teachers, and yes even seniors). And it's our job to hand it down to younger generations.
I did not get wealthy by knowledge I acquired in college. I got wealthy from the knowledge shared by many seniors I have known throughout my life.
Wisdom, kindness, True Salvation, understanding the true Love that God has for us all, learning the most valuable lesson about "Saving the Planet" which is if you take care of the planet, it will take care of you even when the stores empty of food. It's happened in the past, it will happen again, and the peace I get knowing that I don't EVER have to worry about food is worth more than all the gold on the planet because you can't eat gold, you can't eat a TV, you can't eat an MP3 player. God made this planet so that it will take care of us, yet we don’t take care of it and some expect to let “natural selection” be the answer just because they are too lazy to recycle, walk more and drive less or worse yet, they refuse to care? Natural selection by allowing seniors to die is not the answer. Getting off our lazy asses is the answer….but no, I bet you’re the type that uses a ton of electricity as you sit in front of your master “Television”.
A book can only teach you so much, nothing beats having an elder teach you as they stand by your side telling you exactly what you did wrong, someone to guide you so that you do it right, and someone who smiles just knowing they are still valued and able to help others. That smile is so beautiful and I treasure every smile I get. Some may be in a wheelchair, some may not be able to drive....but they sure can talk and share so much that society needs to know and learn.
The things one can learn from seniors are 100% free and so so so enriching to ones life.
Many see them as a drain on society I know. Most should see them what they truly are, they are the ones that can do the most good to help make communities a better place. They are the mothers and fathers of us all....and we all should strive to get as much information and advice from them as we can. Their wisdom knows no bounds, and their minds are so full of wonderful things.
So many still gripe about slavery and they don’t even realize that slavery is alive and well today……so many are slaves to television (and other things of course) and they do not even realize it. I actually find it very sad, yet a tad bit humorous. You all go Baaaaah….and you don’t realize that your Baaahs mean nothing, you’re just baaahing while being trapped in a pen, while those of us outside of the Pen sigh and do what we can to help you free yourselves from your pathetic apathy. We see the wonder outside of the pen, and feel so sorry for the multitudes who keep wondering around baahing like lost sheep, wondering why they are still stuck in a pen. Mortgages, debt, living paycheck to paycheck, relying on “Government” to bail them out without realizing that if they want out they will have to quit being lazy and just get out. The first step to getting out is by learning more, and more, and more….until you also possess a wealth of information that you can depend and rely on in any situation.
I'll get off my soapbox now.....so many say that our children are our future, and yes this is so. But our seniors are our past and future, yet many have told them they are no longer welcome in "our society".
Hey you little puke ..... we might be old but we have the benefit of wisdom and time. If you think we are going easy you got another thought coming. What you need to worry about is how many of you little smart ass pukes we are taking with us.
Old men and women filled with piss and vinagar is something you don't want to tick off. Remember, we're to old to fight so we get things over with in a hurry. You might not even have time to kiss your own behind good-by.
Are you kidding????? When Obama was running for office, he said he would NOT raise taxes. He is on the campaign trail again trying to convience America of his healthcare plan.
Won't work. He could talk to america everyday.
Words mean NOTHING.... He is going to have to prove himself to the american people. You want to be trusted, you have to earn it!
#3.3.2 I am sorry if my words offend you to the point where you have to be so disturbingly vulgar. Start with me? I am not sure what you mean by your statement so I will attribute it to mean that you can't handle the truth.
Your mind just can't seem to accept that you're attitude is wrong...yes, that is actually very pathetic, just as you are still very pathetic.
Actually, now you are laughable pathetic.
Start with me? They have already started with you, by screwing with your view of reality....go back and sit in front of your Master the Television and go baaaaaah with your other slave friends. You bore me.
Obama said he would not sign the healthcare bill if it increased the deficit-well he also said he would not let pork into the stimulus-he lied then and he is lying now-
the whole health is not broken-therefore just fix the broken spots and leave the rest alone.

Not really! Money is money. Right? You may want it to seem that way!
Anonymous Senior, my words weren't directed at you. The threaded system of the site sometimes makes it appear like that, but my words were meant for the poster of 3.2.2.
I would never call seniors sheep......EVER. I respect them way too much for that!
