County budget is $8.573 million

Four citizens turned out and none offered comment Sept. 1 as the Lamar County commission held a public hearing on its proposed budget.

Commission chairman Jay Matthews noted the $8.573 million budget had been cut by 3% from the budget requested by department heads. The budget is down 4% from the previous year.

Bout time! For a change, I say thank you to the commission! But must point out that we have a sheriff in office that finally understands the impact he has on the budget. Thanks sheriff! And looks like we have not lost any services with the cut in funds. Building a new fire station, repairing bridges, starting to pave dirt roads (or at least it said so in the paper). Keep up the good work.

Thank you to the commission, fire chief and asst chief. The city and county has 100 firefighters. 9 or 12 firefighters staying at the station 24/7. Building a new fire station. And a new truck. Thank you. Thank you so much.

yes, thank you for finally building the station #1! something we can all be proud of for our community. I have to say I never thought we would have such a nice station. cant wait to see the real thing. Lamar county got it going on!

the city and county employs 100 firefighers? for what? that number is way to big for a community and county this size. how many police officers do we have?

gezzz. if that figure is correct, it blows my mind!!

The commission noted applying for 9 or 12. Maybe 12? The commoission said I have no problem going for 3. We can go for 9 or 12. The idea of 9 or 12 firefighters staying at the new station. Accepted!

22 police officers, 11 gordon police officers, 18 sheriffs deputies and 25 georgia state patrol.

thank you for clarifying how much of an idiot i am. sounds like your not to far away yourself. i was merely asking a question from a statement that steemed from #2.

i know what you can volunteer to do, and bet you want say your stupid comments to my face or youd have one less tooth. you only have three teeth so you should watch your smart mouth if you want to keep them.

i could care less about you or a volunteer, how bout take your begging boots somewhere else. my tax dollar already foots your bill and about once a month youre standing in the middle of town harrassing people and begging for money. if people pass by without throwing money in your boots you give us a look as like we could just "go to hell" or have some mumbling smart comment.

so once again thank you for your very well thought out comment...MR. VOLUNTERR!!

Ok, big mouth next time you need a paramedic or fire fighter maybe they will be tied up helping someone who appreciates them. Jerk! By the way, I am not a volunteer hahahahaha idiot
