An old saying goes, “If you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything.” I believe there to be a great deal of wisdom in those words. Good health is our most valuable personal asset and is worth more than all the material possessions the world has to offer.
Think about it – even rich people fear death and there isn’t one of them who wouldn’t trade every penny of their fortunes to be spared from a terminal illness. Even if one’s life itself isn’t threatened, poor health can steal away many of life’s greatest joys – holding a baby, watching a son or daughter graduate high school, going for a walk on the beach.
It’s little wonder when Washington begins talking about health care reform, the whole country sits up and takes notice. The country usually doesn’t like what it hears. America’s recent overtly negative reaction to the administration’s health care reform proposal is similar to, though much more intense than, the Clinton (that’s both Bill and Hillary) health care reform proposals of the early 1990s.
In fact, it appears likely that, at least with regard to the House of Representatives, the election cycle of 2010 will resemble that of 1994 when American voters turned out in huge numbers to cast out Democrats bent on supporting the Clinton's terribly flawed plan.

The idea people in what once was the richest nation on earth should not have a right to some form of health care, like people in the poorest nations do, is just silly. It is another example of how some hypocrites demand a baby be brought into the world, and then once the baby is in the world don't give a crap if the baby lives a productive life or dies.
As a matter of fact the difference between an extreme liberal and an extreme conservative is only the age at which death is OK. For the extreme liberal, death is OK prior to birth or life. For an extreme conservative, letting someone die is OK only after birth and only if saving the person would have cost a little money.
Right now, and this is a fact, the leading cause of USA working middle class personal bankruptcies are medical debts, and most of these bankruptcies occur with people who had health insurance.
So here we are, what once was the wealthiest nation in the world, and we have Fox News and its band of mindless parrots telling us if our 45 year old neighbor is dying a lingering painful death with what would have been curable breast cancer, that's just too bad.
She does not have a "right to life". The "right to life" is reserved for a stem cell, or reserved for a baby that will be born into a drug addict's world.
Once that baby is 1 or 10, or 100 years old, too bad. The "right to life" has expired because it might cost some cheap Christian conservative 2% of their precious income that they could be spending on what they want.
I wonder what kind of nation we are becoming, when some of us want to force life into the world so badly we kill to do it.....and in the next breath some of us care less if a working productive person dies from a curable disease that would have been treated in Cuba or a hundred other "poor" nations.
People need to get their heads on straight. Life either has value worth fighting for from the beginning to the end, or it has no value at all. It can't be both ways.
We either pull together and take care of our national interests, or we let it continue to unravel.

As we said then (and Tapper kindly links to us in his report): Last year, someone filed for bankruptcy roughly every 30 seconds, according to data from the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts. That’s a bankruptcy for any reason — not just the cost of health care. A 2005 Harvard study attributed half of all bankruptcies to health expenses, which would mean there’s a bankruptcy caused by health care every minute — at most. Do not assume that everyone without health insurance benefits is a low life, sorry, non working person. There is a class of working poor who can't afford the insurance offered by their employer. Think about the Certified Nursing Assistants that make $10.00 an hour. Family coverage costs $500 or more a month through their employer. They can't afford this. People can look down their noses at the people who work these low paying jobs, yet when it's time for their parents to be placed in a long term care facility, they will certainly be glad there are those people who are willing to work such a low paying job.
I'm not saying Obama's healthcare is the right answer, because it is flawed. However the insurance industry in this country is also flawed.

This reform is not an attempt by the government to take over the health care industry but to provide a program that would pool the resource of lower income Americans so they can compete as a group. The total acquired revenues will attract insurance companies willing to competing for this service.
Presently, it is the increase premiums of the little guy that is substituting the ability for the insurance industry to provide very attractive rates for group provider. I always thought competition is better and with an over 400% increase in profit the insurance industry has experienced over the last decade we need more competition.
Health care for all is more than just a noble idea. It’s an indication of a more advanced society and signifies the culture has been able to move beyond the wicked practice of profiting at the expense of the misery of others. There is nothing wrong with payment for services rendered but the industry has inserted an additional 30% plus increased cost for this service with absolutely no additional value for the provider or the customer.
I find it bizarre that Spenser compares a person’s right to health care as equal to wanting a new Ferrari. It’s interesting that a man with such education and religious nature has not been able to move beyond comparing the material things of this world as equal to the divine gift of life.
I bet other industrialized nations are looking at America and wondering what’s the big deal with these guys? The riches and most powerful country on earth and who claim to be a charitable Christian nation can’t get it together enough to keep their population healthy because their worried that someone might get something for nothing. Pardon me, but last time I checked, taxes cost WAY more than a mere "two percent." It's closer to THIRTY percent, and even more for business owners. My parents are taxpayers, and so am I. I had a summer job, and taxes were taken out of it. Some went to various programs to save for my future, but unfortunately, most went to the general pool of money the government draws from. Make no mistake; the government is not a bad thing, but it can be--the bigger we make it, the stronger it gets (and the more tyrannical and controlling it can become). If those in charge want to really help us out, give us a break and lower taxes! We can't afford things because mush of our money goes to the government.
I must question: have we totally forgotten how Social Security has turned out? Social Security is BANKRUPT, people! We entrusted the government with money to support us later in life, but what has it done? Spent it. Every last penny has been spent. And now money we DON'T have has been spent--we are in debt. If we want to fix the economy, we have to stop going into debt as individuals and as a government. I'm taking economics, and a basic rule is to be careful not to spend money you don't have.
President Obama himself is not TOTALLY responsible for the current deficit, but he is responsible for however much he adds to it. Another good economic principle is to pay off your debts ASAP.
Can we be mature here? Seriously, the future of the nation is at stake daily, and most of us are content to either look for ways to make more money and get reelected or whine and point fingers. It seems that the people we elect do the same thing. If anyone who reads this is man enough to do something about it, vote for someone who will do more than whine and blame!

Social Security and Medicare is something different. That is why we pay a different tax in to those systems. You might say that is a service that we pay for our entire life to use in our retiremnet years. It is NOT a freebie! It is a service that we paid for (just like when you hire someone to wash your car or pay an investment broker to manage your accounts). We cannot change the fact that leadership used the money and inserted IOUs in it place. So you need to use common sense and don't confuse welfare with PREPAID retirement benefits that the individual taxpayer paid their entire working life for.
