Yep... World Class Facilities & World Class Student-Athletes. GATA Dr. Truby!!! Keep it going... Your efforts are truly appreciated by those that want the best for the Lamar Co. Schools, and their Teachers, Staff, & Students.
What you fail to realize they are students first before they are athletes it goes hand in hand they have to maintain a certain grade to participate in sports good job LCCHS in all that you achieve!!
I couldn't agree with you more on that. Just look at the paper if you need proof that athletics take place over academics. No matter what other stories are going on you will always notice front and center is how the High School Athletics teams are doing. God forbid we forget to praise our Athletic teams. Lets praise the students and teachers who are working so hard to give and receive an education. Academics should come way before athletics. This has been going on for as long as I have lived in Lamar county and it will continue after I am gone but I will admit that its pathetic.
Wow, #4.1.1.1!!! Obviously, you can't see the forest for looking at the trees. Athletic teams, when properly structured, are the closest thing to a common thread of teamwork to achieve a common goal that you will find... Principles like work ethic, uniformity, discipline, goal-setting, structured-training, loyalty, sweat-equity, organization, mental & physical development, facing & handling adversity, character development, winning & losing with class, & on-&-on...
Each member of an athletic team has to perform in concert with their fellow teammates to achieve common goals. Sports is one of the best programs in the school system that mirrors the challenges that a young boy and girl will face in life, as adults. I ask you this... Where would some of these kids that have little, to-no, structure at home be without a sense of belonging that they can get on their athletic teams? A lot of them would turnout to be unproductive citizens. Coaches want to win, of course, but they are mentors to these kids, as well.
Reiterating what one poster mentioned above -- student-athletes have to meet academic standards to be eligible for participation on the school's athletic teams. Academics & athletics go hand-in-hand in developing well-rounded students and citizens. Need I say more... Your argument is weak, at best...
WOW people really are blind. There is more to the school that just the athletic department. However that is all that is given any praise. Shame on you for that. Just because you can play a sport doesn't mean that you are destined for great things once you leave high school.
It's obvious that unless your an athlete you will get no recognition. Its been that way for years and its not going to change now. Praise those who can run while carrying a football.
Look at the kids who went on High Q. There were just a handful of comments, Literally. But let the football team win a game and OMG you will have a ton of comments. That is exactly the issue. Forget about the academic achievements
just praise the sports teams.
It must have been a slow news week for the paper to publish non sport related pictures.
