Another dog found raises red flag on pet protection

Some 5 million family pets are reported missing annually. Based on pet theft reports filed with agencies across the nation it is conservatively estimated that approximately 1.5 to 2 million of these missing family pets are taken forcibly, or by deception, through so-called "Free to Good Home" ads.

The rest simply 'disappear' for a host of reasons. This week alone in Lamar County 5 dogs have been reported to The Herald-Gazette as missing and/or found.


This beautiful dog showed up at a friend's house on south 341 with his shock collar around his neck. He has to belong to someone.

someone is going around the north part of the county putting out dogs,i'v had two put out at my house in the last month.i got a tip on who it is,and if it pans out,i'm going to hurt your feelings.so the next time you get the idea to let out a dog be watching real close, because i'm looking for you.you dirty little maggott!

What two did you find? I think my neighbor took my two dogs off. Please post what you found. I'm missing a female hound/mix, and a black hound/lab mix. Thanks.

female hound mix +/- a year old, with a blue collar the other was a old begale type.

Get a tag number and if possible get a photo. That little thing carries a hefty fine. Over a grand I think. It will put a dent in the violators wallet and they will reconsider if they want to do it again.

Remember - Tag Number. Vehicle Identification. - Person Identification. - Photo if possible. Cell phones take a good picture.

Lamar has a pet control law that says pets aren't allowed to roam off your property. Lamar has a rabies shot law that says your pets have to be tagged as having current shots by a licensed vet.

If you let your dogs run loose and they go off your property or bark or make noise that bothers your neighbors it is illegal.

where did your dogs go missing from? i see quiet alot of dogs around milner. if i see these dogs i'll be sure to post i found them but i have dogs that don't like other dogs so i would have to place them in pins out back of my house unless they are puppies for them we probably could make short term arrangements until you are notified.

People have been dumping animals in Milner for years. I remember everytime Spalding County would crack down on leash laws or something else involving the animals Milner would get animals thrown out in the area. I hope #1 can catch who is doing it because this has been going on for far to long with no one paying the price.

Looks like a dog that I saw in Redbone and was with another dog, same color. Off of Community House Rd and Ramah Church Rd area.

I wish pet owners would keep their dogs at home and stop letting them roam onto my property and harrass my dog. That is kept inside so he can't roam and tear up other peoples property . It's bad when you open the front door and see a big dog on your porch. If they don't want the dog..call the pound or put free dog ad in paper.

I have the same thing here. We already have laws on the books to stop that but they aren't enforced. Call your commissioner and maybe that will change. Some wonderful person dumped an old battle-scarred lame pitbull off here last week. The poor thing will get killed fast by coyotes or eventually slowly starve to death.

Come on now!!! If your neighbors dogs bark all night long and keeps you awake. you call the sherriffs dept. they tell you that it is not an appropriate time to wake them and tell them to do something about it. It doesm't matter that the dog is disturbing your sleep. What can you do? My neighbor lets his dog stay at my house for weeks on end then when I get to thinking he might just let me keep her he shows up to take her back to her prison Which is a 4x10 kennel. They show the dog no attention and they really don't want her but the dog was given as a gift and that is the only reason they keep her. I love animals and would adopt a lot but I just can't afford them. But I have to pay taxes so the welfare folks can have what they want.

We have Larry Waller back now. Unlike the last Sheriff Larry Waller enforces the law without regard to waking or disturbing violators of county laws. They will send a deputy out who will issue a citation to the neighbor for breaking animal laws that are on the books. The dog catcher is also properly trained. He will check for rabies tags issued by a licensed vet, and will issue a citation for not having vacination tags, allowing animals to roam, or disturb neighbors from barking. All you need to do is call. One call...that's all. Just like the commercial.

This is a joke, right?

For years I have had problems with my neighbor and his collection of dogs. During Waller's first term, his department was called four times to address the situation. Nothing significant was done.

Fast forward to Buice. After yet another incident of my neighbor failing to keep his mutts at home, Buice came out personally and explained he would have the magistrate judge issue a court order to have the animals destroyed if he got another call about them.

Problem solved and the reason I voted Buice last time.

You can spew all the fairy tales about Waller's excellence, but I saw the difference with my own eyes. We stepped back and down with the reelection of Larry Waller.

Say what you want about Buice but not matter how many times we complained about people flying up and down the road where the speed limit is 45 mph we were told its not important. It took 2 calls and over an hour to have someone come out when we had someone sneaking through our back yard. We couldn't get anything done about harassment issues because it was a family member. Buice wouldn't do anything.

At least Larry will enforce the Good Behavior bond I have and I haven't had to wait for over a hour to get someone out when I call about something.

First off Buice or no other can have the maigistrate detroy someones animals just because they say so. Thats Hog Wash. There are steps that have to be taken before this could happen.

I really would like to know who we need to looking out for. There is an old beagle that is hanging around my street, mainly my yard. It killed a rabbit in my driveway last night.

We are tired of all these animals showing up at our house all the time. It is becoming a real problem. They dig holes, howl, fight at all hours day or night.

Animal control can't do anything, or won't do anything. You pretty much have to trap the animal first. Not easy to do when they run from you.

Also Lamar co. has a rabies problem, right? No thanks.

I would like to know which area #1 Anon was talking about. Ridgeway, Evans? We are flooded with strays here.
