Embattled Morehouse police chief Vernon Worthy claims he should have been allowed into the grand jury room to address jurors when the assault case against him was presented.

Apparently Worthy is trying to claim that his status as a Police Officer entitles him to be present during Grand Jury and affords him the oppurtunity to make a sworn statement. READ THE CASE LAW "STUPID". You only have that right "if you are accused of a crime that was to have been committed while in the performance of your official duties". I don't think that hunting is "official duites". I don't wanna blame him or his attorney, ( that probably was the question that was missed on the bar exam) Ha Ha.

Try as hard as you might to smear Larry Waller, please remember this case came under the jurisdiction of our former sheriff, who refused to bring charges against this man.

Amen Linda.....just look at the Clark/ Yost case. Doesnt it make you wonder why they had to get a plea deal out of one to get a confession on the other....

I hope Worthy gets whats coming to him. He violated the rights of another human and the situation could have turned out much worse. To say that he was acting as a police officer or a guard of the property is absurd, I guess thats why he called his buddies out to the property instead of calling the sheriff's department first.

Chief Worthy will not receive a fair or impartial trial in Lamar County.
The rednecks and crackers have declared him guilty and are waiting to hang him. A trial for that honorable Black police officer is mererly a formality to satisfy redneck protocol. Chief Worthy's lawyer should petition for a change of venue. He should seek to have the trial moved to the Atlanta area or Clayton County where there is a larger African American presence so he really would be judged by a jury of his PEERS.
There are hardly any cracker juries in Fulton County. Justice now!

Walter for sure is not to take any blame and if my memory serves me correctly, JB can not take much blame as Mr. Rooks had to go to the magistrate and swear out a warrant on his own.

I doubt the Rooks will make any deal.

it is apparant you have no idea how the jury pool is formed, if the african american population is not represented in the jury pool it is likely because they chose not to register to vote. You obviously are unaware of the percentage of black vs. white in this county. Fact: more white people register to vote than blacks and other ethic races. This equates to more white jurors being in the potentional jury pool. Not rocket science.

Crimes are charged where they occur. A crime is a crime no matter who commits it and no matter what skin color the person has. I'm sick of hearing people discuss what happened as if it were no big deal. A man held an other person at gunpoint and threatened to take his life. Worthy wasn't even aware enough to know that Worthy was the one on the wrong property. Before you start pulling out the race card consider for a second how this would all be playing out if Worthy was white and Rooks was black - the NAACP would be all over this crap. Where is the NAAWP?

What ever happenened to innocent until 'proven' guilty?

If the comments are indicative of the jury pool, he doesn't stand a fair chance.

They alone vouch for a change of venue.

Whites are not allowed to have organizations like that that would be racist. Although every other ethnic group in America can and they do and these groups work at villainizing the white community.
When a white person is accused of an offense we as a group should do what other ethnic groups do and band together to force the courts and elected officials to support our demands. We need a white Jesse Jackson or an Al Sharpton, but then again if a white person stands up for our rights then he is nothing more than a racist.
Look at the statistics in about 15-25 more years you will be the minority and then you will truly feel the pain of what happened in this country 200 years before you or I were born.

Another reasonable voice in Lamar County!

If there is no change of venue to ensure a fair and impartial jury, Chief Worthy won't stand a chance with a predjuiced jury pool.

At least the District Attorney is a reasonable man and may listen to both sides of the story with an attentive ear. Chief Worthy probably needs a "dumb" ticket issued for being "dumb" enough to hunt in Lamar County. That white boy hunter had cracker pals to back him up. It would have been a different story in Fulton County. The Chief needs to be tough like Obama to get out of this mess and then tell Lamar County to kiss his A**!

I was of the opinion that the function of the Grand Jury was to determine if a Charge was a "No Bill" or a "True Bill" That testimony was for the courts to hear.
My opinion has a hard time getting the good ole boy, or redneck, or racist syndrome so many try to put into arguments. Those indicate to me they dont have a bona fide argument, but making alot of noise in the attempt to convince the unknowing.

If found guilty, I would be surprised if this man served any time at all. This case is going to hit him hard in the wallet and maybe his job if found guilty. If what I read is true, he let his ego get away from him on a person who had a family with the nerve and persistence to retaliate when unduly assaulted.

Vernon Worthy is not arrogant but smart and born in Barnesville, he worked exceediingly hard to earned excellent grades, and with that came the respect of his teachers and classmates.

Vernon is smart, intelligent, and the first person that would stand up and defend the rights of another black or white.

I was an 'A' student that compared home work with his before the bell ring.

Vernon Worthy was smart, honest and conscientious, he did not check his work against ours. That made feel bad but i was smart enough to go to the best, Robert wilson and Robert Wilson.

Buice would not bring charges because Rooks was a Waller supporter. If Rooks had supported Buice's re-election, he would have charged him. At least citizens do have a right to bring up charges on their own. Law enforcement officials should always follow the law and not just to support their friends.

From what I heard, Worthy was using quite a few racial slurs towards Rooks. Plus, what was his point in calling all his buddies in before calling the law. One of his friends who showed up ended up having enough common sense to call the sheriff. He had no right holding a gun to anyone's head while he was unarmed and threatening to shoot a cracker. As a law enforcement officer, wouldn't your first call be to the law authorities for backup?
