I hear Pippen is out. I certainly hope so. The idea is to change things for the better by following the law, not make things worse by getting another buddy in there.
One only needs to look at the lone vote against the motion to ask for the resignation of the Board of Assessors, less Aaron Brown, to understand the need for change.
The Board of Assessors and the Chief Appraiser have been ineffective far to long.
Commissioner Thrash was correct in her motion and the Commissioners less Commissioner Brown was correct in passing her motion.
Archaic thinking (thinkers) such as the lone "no vote" needs to be purged from the Lamar County Commission. This next election will bring about this opportunity!!
Another "buddy" in there is quite the opposite. Ms. Pippin will stand up to Ms. Mayo and not be run over. Ms. Pippin will do what is right for the people as she always as.
If the Ms. Pippin being referenced is the former tax commissioner it would seem a conflict of interest to appoint to the board of assessors someone who has worked hand in hand for the past 30 years with the tax assesors office and the very people you just voted to get rid of. Ms. Pippin was quoted as saying she was leaving office due to medical concerns so it would concern me if she were appointed to the Board of Assessors. Are her "medical concerns" no longer an issue after only a year out of office?
Why in the world would anyone want to go back to what we had in this county before needed change began to take place. Do you not remember how the previous Tax Commissioner ran the tag office and the tax auctions? Do we want the level of intimidation and deceit to return? Why would you want to let the fox BACK in the hen house. "Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it". Thank you Ms. Mayo for working to make our tax system equitable. Thank you to the members of the Board of Commissioners who have the courage and integrity to do the right thing. Decisions like this give me hope for this county that my family has called home since the 1800's, and that I have lived in for the last 35 years.
The Commissioner forget what department brings in the money for the county. Without a Board of Assessors they will be no revenue generated from Taxes, which means the County will have to get another bond/loan to operate.
Why would you think this Ms. Moore is the only intelligent citizen of Lamar County? I posted without my name because of people like you who have knee-jerk reactions. Believe me, I am not Ms. Moore, but I most likely have the same desires for a progressive county that she enjoys. Where have I been? A citizen of this county for my entire adult life. I am tired of the old "good ole boy" system of the past leaders. There are several past elected officials of this county that in all reality should be tried for criminal offenses. Where have YOU been?
If you are going to accuse me of writing to this blog, at least spell my name correctly.
If I am going to post something to any of these blogs, I sign my name. You will very rarely see something from me because I very rarely read these blogs. The only reason I am doing so now is because someone else alerted me to your posting. And for your information, I have only lived here 5 years and have been accused of "not being from here" because of that. Also, if you would open your eyes and ears, you would know that there are many many people in this county, both old timers and new residents, other than me, who are concerned about the way things have been done in the past and are pleased to see meaningful change taking place because we like it here and want the quality of life to be good for everyone.
