Some nine hours after it was found, the body of a middle aged white male now positively identified as Charles G. Adams, 56, was removed from a doorway at 488 Grove Street after a fatal shooting that occurred at about 7 a.m. Friday.
Just after 7 p.m., an arrest was made. The suspect was not identified.
GBI crime scene investigator Todd Crosby removes what is thought to be either a gun or gun case from the yard of a home at 501 Grove St.

It is not an issue of disrespect nor sacred times nor distaste. It is the job of the newspaper to report the news with integrity as it happens with impartiality.
I am deeply sorry that this event took place and I am sorry that the estranged family will not have a chance now to reconcile their relationship with the victim.
And you are right 'Anna' we chose our images respectfully in order to accurately portray the scene while still showing some respect and regard for both the victim and the family. Let is also be noted that upon further review of our images we removed one image which may under some circumstance be questionable. We did so in order to honor the request of the family.
Try reading again.
That may be what 6.1 was referring to.
Will you check that out?
The difference between our coverage and that of a tabloid such as the Enquirer is that we do not make the news nor create stories. We simply print what is the reality of life in Barnesville - by the minute.
Just to clear the timeline air, I arrived on scene at 8:35am. I put up our first 'Breaking News' at 9:45am. I then returned to the scene and made another update just after 1pm. I returned to the scene after hearing the sheriff's office was going to release an official statement. By 4pm that had not happened but Williams Funeral Home showed up and removed the body. I left the scene by 4:45pm and returned to the office.
So, 'CSI', I apologize for doubting your quote last night and I thank you all for keeping me in check.
When will there be an update on the person charged?
As soon as that information is released you can guarantee we will list it.
What a tragedy.. my deepest sympathy goes to his family.
The thing is, there is also "Freedom Of The Press" and to censure this is not right. A lot of things I see in the news are upsetting to me, but even then, I have no right to dictate what a reporter can and cannot do. Our constitution doesn't allow this. Those that try to take away others legal liberties do not deserve liberties of their own. Demanding that the pictures be removed is wrong if no laws have been broken, and clearly no laws have been broken.
Your comment was you exercising your right to freedom of speech, and you should be grateful it was approved instead of censored out. It’s perfectly OK to complain and explain how you feel, but to demand removal is just wrong.
I myself am more upset that a busload of children SAW the body as the bus drove past the house that afternoon. That is not the newspapers fault, that's the fault of every official at the crime scene including the deputies, officers and DFACS workers. Talk about really screwing up, that was a big screw-up. We can’t trust our officials to block such a site from our Children’s views while conducting an investigation, while the government is transporting those children! Now THAT is pathetic. This was a violation of the trust parents placed in the system to have their children transported safely to and from school. Was the trip safe, yes, but think of the emotional issues involved. This is pure out emotional abuse and those officials should be held accountable for their negligent actions!
The comment about the government agencies is absurd, and I hope you can figure that one out on your own.
It's nice to be able to voice opinions in a forum like this!
Bash the officials? Who uphold the constitution? Maybe a few do but not as many as you seem to think. There are many in the area that cares nothing for citizen’s rights or property. I DARE you to dispute me on that one. What proof do you have that they ALL uphold their sworn oath? Not a shred, you can’t have that proof because it’s not true.
And children these days are smart, no one has to tell them a thing. They don't live in the ice age and they are not idiots, and to presume such is really degrading to the counties children. Also, a bus is higher on the road than a car, a lot more is seen from a bus window than a car window. So you seem to believe it’s ok for children to ensure emotional trauma such as this? That’s not very compassionate at all.
For someone that has been looking for this man for 12 years, how did you get the news so fast?
When I have driven by other crime scenes or accidents the people at the scene hide the view of the sheet. I don't know if they do that out of respect for the dead, or to prevent gawkers, but that is what they do.
Some of us are more sensitive to seeing things like that than others. For me it is just a sheet. I can't stand to look at dead people even at a funeral. I think it is gross to stare at a dead face. The sheet doesn't bother me at all.
In my opinion the problem here is the people working the scene probably should have blocked the view from the public. That is where the poor taste and disrespect really starts. I would think our leading well-educated criminal law major that always lectures us all about the legal process would have learned that in a few classes.
This isnt just some stray bullet homicide or a robbery/home invasion gone wrong. Well it may have been but it was still drug related and not a random thing.
I have no remorse or sympathy for ppl that commit suicide or get involved in criminal activity that the ultimate result is death wether it is an overdose or such that has happed here.
Obviously the father hasnt been much of a father anyway and many of us have experienced that, but its still the boys daddy reguardless. Like i said if there wasnt his name at the top, no one could look at the pictures and identify the person. Get over it.
Regardless, if the county can’t afford an incident tent then maybe people in the community should consider a fundraiser to prevent such a wrong in the future? Or better yet, since some are too lazy to think, maybe as a concerned citizen I will just donate one to the county myself, problem solved. Some of us do care about the children in the area, unlike those who do not seem to.
You actually think the kids would be so busy staring at the floor that no one would notice all the cop cars and commotion and look at the unhidden uncovered body right in plain sight?
More likely the bus was almost on three wheels as all the kids crowded to the windows on the side towards all the cop cars to see what the commotion was.
Some people just come up with anything to cover up for the ones that they love. The people working that scene, in particular the well-educated by-the-textbook Sheriff should have had enough common sense to at least drape a sheet over the body, or maybe hid it behind a few red campaign signs or old truck tires he has left lying around cluttering up the county for the past few months.
I really don't think the children on that bus saw much or knew much about the incident until they got home. They have to learn about death at an earlier age in this day and time. Use the opportunity to discuss death and the consequences of drugs and alcohol. There are plenty of books and online references on the subject. This will help them understand and cope with it.
And just because YOU may allow YOUR children to watch violent graphic content on TV does not mean that other parents do so. Not every parent allows the crap seen on TV to be played in their homes, nor do they just let their children go willy nilly unsupervised online with so many perverts preying on children these days.
Just because YOU may thrive on violence, may even get your jollies off on it; that doesn’t mean we’re all like YOU.
not only was the body uncovered but i was told from someone at the scene that the crime scene was left unattended! in that case, a sheet should've been placed over the individual because any one person could have tampered with the evidence, so, does it really matter about altering a crime scene when it is possible it had been altered already? who would know?????? definitely not lamar county sheriffs office!!! : (
the kids who were on the bus were not only riding by but were dropped off near the scene of the crime which means that the bus came to a complete stop and the majority of the kids, im sure, saw all of the commotion! the bus wasnt just passing by...
lcso gets no kudos from me and will never as long as waller is in office!!! boooooo!
Is the language that you're using the one called "Ignorglish"?
Besides, 12 years ago your son would have been 15---do you really think a 15 year old doesnt know what type person their mother or father is? Keeping them apart only made you look worse and probably after this will cause even more pain for your son. Dont think for a minute that a 15 yr. old doesnt know who, what, when, how, or why--because this will definetly come back to bite you on yor a** now. Stop pretending to be innocent and apologize to your son, or I can about gaurantee
your relationship with him wil only begin to suffer more and more each day.

I Also think it is a tragedy that his life ended as it did.I also am an old friend,I knew Graves and Ivy as well.I do know that Ivy spend 16 years with this man.I do know that drugs was very much a part of his life, not that he brought it upon himself, but when we surround ourselves with this lifestyle we increase the odds of this kind of thing happening.I do know that Ivy had a choice to make concerning their son, and I did then,as I do now support her decision to remove their son from this influence.I do know that Ivy always made her and his son's whereabouts available to Graves through her mom and dad.I do know that Graves chose not to make contact with either.I am just saddened as i know she is that Graves chose not to take steps to improve his situation. But as you said it is not about their past relationship, and no one deserves to die like this. But drugs are a main issue in this case. As to Graves involvement,That is for the courts to decide based upon the evidence.
