The headline jumped off the news wire this morning as if to say, "Yes, America, we are in a recession and yes, it is dog-eat-dog." When Wal-Mart begins to cut jobs (not to mention so many jobs) we can all begin to worry.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. announced yesterday it is cutting about 11,200 jobs at its Sam's Club warehouse division as it outsources in-store product sampling to marketing company Shopper Events in an effort to win more customers and boost lagging sales.

No loyalty toward the workers.
However, this is something I pretty much expect from WalMart. I don't shop there.
More people out of work. That's just super.....
Keep in mind most of these jobs are not going away but out sourced to another American based company.
Does no one remember that if people are out of work and not making money they simply are not able to contribute to the profit of other stores?
Of no concern to the cooperate executives. They shut down stores all the time.
And if the stores have to close down due to lagging sales they will be unable to contribute to the tax revenue pools of the cities they are based in.
Just when has this been a concern of multinational corporations?
If this cities lose tax rev......well, I do hope the point is not lost.
What it means is more print in the classified section under foreclosures.
Is this a contributing sign of the armageddon straight from the journals of Nostradamus? Yea right, even thought this trend has been in the making for the last 35 years we need to blame this on the present administration like we do everything else, either that or, the contour of the earth. Our only hope is to create new markets and hope they are not undercut like everything else in America has been.
If you want a job and don’t know where to look it may be handy to get on line and find out where the Starbuck’s Coffey shops are located. This company does a very through study on market trends and work force migration. Where I work there are at least six shops in a five mile radius. It also helps if you have a marketable skill.
Please tell us your definition of capitalism in your own words.
It is possible that someone out there knows of a job opening depending on what you do. Tell us the kind of work you are looking for.
Walter G. - this might be a good topic. Others might be looking for work whereas others might be able to point them somewhere depending on their skills. This might be a good way for people to help other people. Aren't we all in this together?
This is the company that Wal-Mart is outsourcing.
I don't shop Wal-Mart since I don't agree with their treatment of their employees, but if I did, I can tell you that if anyone is standing in a kiosk trying to get me to come see their product, I usually give a wide berth.
Has anyone read "Nickled and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America" by Barbara Ehrenreich (sp)?
Wal-Mart features rather prominently.

So what happens when unregulated big business does not act with a moral or ethical conscience? Is moral capitalism an oxymoron?
An oligarchy is a form of government in which power effectively rests with a small elite segment of society distinguished by royal, wealth, intellectual, family, military, or religious hegemony.
What part of this do you not agree with? The evidence is everywhere. It is even true for this small town..albeit on a smaller scale.
The problem is that the people don't know who they are electing.
