Like many, I sat in front of my television last night listening to all 70 minutes of the President's speech as well as watching the 82 times the dem's (and some repub's) jumped to their feet led by a seemingly over-zealous Nancy Pelosi.

I tried to swallow the same campaign promises offered to the palate of the American people just over a year ago.

And I quietly challenged Mr. Obama to stop grandstanding and start delivering.

It is my perception that Pres. Obama can with much effort get his measure passed through the House as he has shown. When it comes to the Senate, we all know it’s a completely different story. Even though on paper the Democrats clearly in the Senate have a majority, it is the Blue Dog Democrats (Which may be the remnants of the ole Dixiecrats) and the united front of the Senate Republicans which bock him at every move. An excellent example will be what comes out of the Senate on reforming and regulation of our nation’s banking system. We all know this is a must (especially for the middle class) if we are to survive as a prosperous nation. You just watch and see…the bill will be watered down to the point (like health care) that it will only remotely resemble its original intent. Yet, we will again, blame the President. An easy target for those who don't have a clue.

The reason for the lack of change is not the President's fault. His ideas are great but for some reason there is a idea that his ideas would impose large taxes or somehow hurt the American People. What is the problem with all Americans being able to go to the doctor. What is wrong with giving money to companies that employ your average working American. President Obama did not cause any of the problems of the United States and so far he is doing all he can to improve the problems that the last President caused. The President can not pass legislation by himself. It is called the system of Checks and Balances. If the Republicans work toward a solution for the people instead of trying to bash the President every chance they get the country will be much better almost instantly. You can say what you want about clinton but he lead American to some of the best years in the the country's history. Unless you are making more than a million dollars a year the republicans do not really care about your ideas or your needs. For all you so called wealthy tax paying people of Barnesville think of the taxes you paid with Bush those will not change because no one in Barnesville employs thousands of people or millions of dollars yearly. The republicans in Barnesville, GA are a joke.

I believe this is part of the problem. The blame game has not worked for any leader in the past. After more than a year in office it is time for the president to start acknowledging his own actions and recourse and start paving his own path. Yes, he walked into some problems. But as anyone following another into a position, it is up to you and your team to assess those wrongs and act quickly to right them.

No, the President cannot pass legislation on his own. But he can make more solid decisions. He spent too much time focusing on Czars and not enough time investing in his own cabinet, advisory panels and legislative branches. I am not at all interested in talking about Clinton as his transgressions are in the past and the climate of the world has changed in those 9 years since.

What measure are you referring to Enoc? Are you saying his entire speech last night was one measure? If so, that is a large octopus with more tentacles than even Herman Melville could concoct. Until they are gone for good (which could potentially be never), the Dixiecrats will be a stumbling block for any leadership that embraces change. They are a stalwart to a number of progressive moves and personally a thorn in my side. To be honest Enoc, I don't see us remaining a prosperous nation in the next decade or so. We are already overrun with personal, professional, educational and governmental debt. I am not blaming the President, per se, as he did NOT make anyone use their credit cards or sign for swinging arm loans. I am blaming him for talking more than acting. Leaders don't always have to explain. Their actions will speak loudly enough.

I love how Democrats are fighting amongst themselves. Mainly because they are split between true Democrats and Progressives which is what Obama considers himself along with many others who want to fundamentally change America. We have got to get these elected officials out of office who want to change America into a socialist and weak nation.

Also, I like how Obama said last night that the troops will be coming home after their job is done. I am really hoping that one day that all of our troops will be home and there will be peace on Earth, but this isn't going to happen. Let's be honest, soon we are going to have to deal with Iran, N Korea, and Yemen just to name a few.

One last thought about last night. Who in their right mind picks on the Supreme Court on a stage like that? This president is out of touch with reality and needs to start using common sense like he said last night.

I'll end it with Michele Obama's quote of the night. "Sit down"! Wow, she looked like an extreme witch when she did that.

When I awoke this morning, I realized that my underwear smelled strongly of smoke. Then I remembered that I had watched the entire state of the union address.

Props for watching all of it as well Andrew. It was far reaching and idealistic, aimed at people who can be baffled with BS, and a disappointment to many who had placed a great deal of hope in the change that Obama had promised. He did follow up on his popular slogan that promised changed, he just should have said in his speech last night that he didnt promise all the changes would be in the best intrests of the country, or that they would be good changes--like Obamanomics.

the whole political system in this country is a joke. The Republicans and Democrats are locked in a giant pissing contest, and nothing is getting done. The whole I'm not going to vote for that because a democrat brought it up is not going to work.

They are all corrupt and only have their own personal gains in the forefront. And you people... you sit there and you eat it up like it is some sort of a game. You want your people to win. That is why this country will not be around in the way we know it much longer. We argue with each other over everything, we forget that most of us are in the middle, we realize that taxes are essential to the survival of the union we just don't agree on how much to pay.

It is a sad thing for me to think that these corporations now run our government our reps are in their pockets and we don't care as long as the other team doesn't win. I find it a disgrace and I believe that our forefathers are rolling over in their graves.

Piglosi pushing today to pass obamacare through reconciliation. Obeyme pushing for immigration reform (amnesty) and crap and tax, even after questionable science.
I continue to feel that they want to alienate the people and destroy this economy even further.
Small businesses and middle class Americans are afraid because they know that these things will raise the cost of everything for all of us. Obviously this does not affect the elites.
Repugs better start standing up to them again or they won't have much of a future either in 2010.
Join the movement, the fight is not over.

He was pretty right on the issues. I'd personally like to see both parties work together for the good of our nation, but he already wasted his first year on that fantasy. It's time he played hard ball for the American people. The people voted in a democratic president and congress. Take that power and use it. Roll over these rebublican parrots and their big NO agenda. Stand up to these mega corps. and make them pay back the money that saved them and then when they earn multimillion $ bonuses it won't bother me. Both parties should demand regulations on the financial system that gambled and lost such hard earned wealth invested by our citizens. Stop playing games with healthcare reform. One real problem is all the unqualified people that will be slid into important places. When Clinton was around he staffed the National Wildlife Refuges, National Forest, and many more with his friends, some of which came from the Social Security Adm and were not qualified to even make coffee. First of all, if you want to have a conversation with someone about something that you think you know all the facts about, try to have the balls to do it under something other than anonymous. Second, the United States was attacked by the cowards representing radical Islam right after Bush took office. Americans lost their lives. Rather than take past approaches like shooting a few cruise missiles and calling that an adequate response, Bush acted like a real Commander in Chief and responded with the United States military. And believe me; the United States military was ready to answer that call. Bush basically started his presidency with two wars; Afghanistan and Iraq. However, I’m sure being that you already know everything; you likely think Bush had no business in Iraq. That would again show your ignorance on the subject. Iraq provided training camps and did have weapons of mass destruction. OH! Why didn’t you know the real facts about that? Because Bush was a real leader and chose to keep information vital to national security quite and not cause a panic by people finding out about actual capabilities of bio-warfare in Iraq and other countries. Yes: you don’t know the facts, only what you have heard. Iran, also a major threat sits right in the middle between Iraq and Afghanistan. You think by consequence? Oh but that’s not all. Bush put together the DHS to protect turncoats like you so that you could condemn him later. He protected your rights under the constitution. And perhaps it is time to point some fingers at the congress that really f#@*^# it all up. Yes, your very own democratic congress. And yes, our current president want2B. All you liberals are exactly alike. Finger pointers never able of accepting any truth but painting a picture of blame on something they had every bit the effort, if not more, of causing. America is too strong to beat militarily. The terrorists are very aware of that fact. Their plan is much more clever. They are slowly bankrupting us while we are chasing shadows. We are over extended with a war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our financial system tanked shortly after (under Bushs watch). The world’s confidence in our nation and financial system dropped under Bushs watch. Do you know what moron he chose to represent us to the United Nations? We redeemed ourselves by electing Obama (which may be the reason for the Nobel Prize). America cannot be great if no other country wants to play with us…we were the bullies on the playground for the last 8 years. And if we are hated as a nation, the terrorists will win by receiving sympathy…and more will be recruited to their cause. We will be in the middle east for years to come or until the money runs out.

Also, each "failed" terrorist attempt (such as the one on 12/25/09) did not exactly fail. It created terror, which was its purpose…to divide our nation. We signed our rights away with the Patriot Act (Bush was a champion of our constitutional rights..ha!!)…while Bush was screaming how the "hate us for our freedom". Our freedom was taken. Bush played right into their hands by his decision to overextend our military. The terrorists were not even in Iraq. But they are there now. Iraq did NOT have weapons of mass destruction. A lie created to justify our invasion. What an idiot Bush was. The terrorists plan is not to fight us militarily, they want our nation to fail, our President to fail (like Rush and his stupid dittoheads) and our system to fail. As of Thursday, every man, woman and child in the USA had Federal Debt of $40,000 each.
Every family of 4 owes $160,000 of debt over and above the house, car, credit cards, furniture and etc.

On Friday the Senate raised the debt ceiling and now every man, woman, and child in the USA will have Federal debt of $45,0000 each. A family of 4 now will have debt of $180,000.

Let's put the blame where it belongs, on the founding fathers or whoever came up with the idea of having two parties at all. It's a sorry state of affairs when we need everyone to talk and work together and none of them want to look back and correct the mistakes they made. They allowed the finacial institutions to run this country into the ground. They legislated our jobs overseas. Now they can't even work to correct the stuff they did to get us here.

I am aware of the tax changes, probably more so than you think you are. I get the Circular E from the IRS every year, which tells me what to withhold. Yes, the Federal withholding did go down last year, and went back up this year. But what they didn't tell you is that when you go file your taxes, since they didn't change the tax rates on the 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ forms, your employer didn't withhold enough, so now YOU have to foot the difference, which is what post #33.1 found out the hard way.

How do you like "hope & change" now?

Federal Taxes did not increase a bit. Nothing. Zero. Nada.

There wasn't a thing done that increased taxes.

To be accurate, the stimulous plan included a tax rebate that amounted to the largest one year federal tax reduction ever.

If your taxes really went up the went up on a local or state level or because you changed something. Other than the cut caused by the rebate Federal taxes are the same as they ever were.

You're the one who's nuts, and I'm certainly not a liar. Publication 15-T (also called Circular E, what it used to be called) is the booklet that all businesses get from the Fed so that they know what amount of federal income tax to withhold from their employees. The previous publication, in March of 2009, showed a significant drop in withholding from the prior year.

For example, you used to have to make about 100 dollars before the gov't withheld the first dollar in income tax. In March of 09, the withholdings dropped, so that you to make $145 before the first dollar was withheld. An employee did not have to make any changes whatsoever on their W-4 for this to happen. So my 941's (the federal tax withheld and the social security/medicare percentage withheld that business owners have to deposit by the 15th of every month) dropped significantly. This year, the new Circular E (Publication 15) changed to reflect $120 in earnings before the first dollar is withheld. But nothing was done on the tax code end of it, where you file your taxes. If you didn't pay in enough throughout the year, you get stuck with the difference.

So, before you go insulting people over stuff they have discovered on their taxes or stuff us business owners have to do every month, know your facts.

The amount of withholdings dropped because of the changes in tax code. They withhold less because your tax owed is going to be less. This is a tax cut. Withholding tax tables do reflect the change. That's why you don't withhold at $100, but a higher amount. It has always been that if you do not pay in enough you have to make up the difference. If you want a bigger refund instead of having the extra in your pay, have them withhold extra.

Sounds like you are refering to the "earned income credit". That is a credit, not a tax. It is a sort of reward to low income people who work. I don't have the chart in front of me but if someone making $19,000 gets a bigger credit than someone making $11,000, that's because they earned more (does not apply to SSI). After a certan amount the credit begins to drop. Maybe if you learned to stop tossing out remarks like "retard", you could get a better paying job.

The site hosts the video. You dont have to read the information on the site to watch the video. This is how politics should operate, out in the open.
But I figured as much... many people are not very open minded when their opinions are challenged by new information.
