Don't take this wrong, I like Buice; but, all his medical bills will be paid and he will still receive his salary. If you have extra money to spare find someone that doesn't have workman's comp and insurance and help them instead.
That is correct worker's comp will pay for the medical bills and some toward his salary. But did you know that worker's comp does not pay 100% of your normal salary. It typically pays anywhere from 65-75% of your salary. He was doing his job and can not be at fault for this incident. So why should his family endure a financial burden or hardship because this idiot was too cowardly to shot himself. Rememeber, how would you feel if you went to work did your job and became injured while on duty and your worker's comp only would pay a portion of your normal salary. Perhaps you would feel differently. It's not like he is asking for handouts because he is too sorry to work. He was protected the citizens in the county he was working just as he did in Lamar County. Damn, get off the guys back he is ready to get well and go back to work trust me when he has recovered he will be back protecting and serving the community in which he lives and loves. Thanks, Joe for your continued service as a lawman and as a human being. Hope the benefit is a success and may your family continue to prosper.
I hope Buice heals quickly and gets back to nabbing miscreants.
FYI:
I read in another newspaper that Spalding County Sheriff Dee Stewart placed Deputy Joe Buice on "full pay" administrative leave while an internal investigation of the shooting is being completed.
To me, that is unclear. Does Buice go on Workers Comp after the shooting investigation is wrapped up or will he draw full pay until he resumes patrol duties?
Maybe he can run against and beat Waller again. New Sheriff in town!
Bring Buice Back! BBB
If the county has workman's comp insurance, it will pay the medical bills and maybe a lump sum settlement. And, I am not knocking Buice; he did a good job and deserves to be treated to the best medical possible. The golf thing is just a chance for rich guys to play golf and have their companies let them take time off from their jobs and pay their fees for them. If you want to give money, why not give it to the Rock Springs Clinic. All people that need help are not freeloaders. Some have served you for years even cleaning up your homes and your trash.
Workers comp pays 75% - but it is 100% tax free. There is no loss. Actually a slight gain. And workers comp is going to pay a huge lump sum payment for the injury. Again tax free.
The dude was shot in the face and has a bullet lodged in his neck! Are we really sitting here, safely at our computers, wondering and caring about what he is getting paid? Regardless of what he is getting paid he will live with the fact that he WAS SHOT IN THE FACE! He will probably have nerve damage done that can't be repaired. LET THEM FREAKING PLAY GOLF!
Jesus people you really need to get your priorities straight. We can't imagine what him and his family is going through. If Spalding County was to pay him his salary for the rest of his life, without him ever having to work again, I'd be all for it.
And give it up with the Sheriff election in this thread. This is not the time (still three years away) or the place (in a thread where there is a charity for the guy because he was shot in the face).
Why such a ruckus over this golf tournament? Everybody has a choice of how they want to spend their money and this is how these guys are choosing to do it. I would think that there are some expenses that are not covered such as going up and down the road to the drs and hospitals and time out of work for a spouse if you are in a family that depends on both spouses working. If these people choose to help this family out in this manner then let it be, it's THEIR choice!!! How many of YOU would bristle up at the thought of someone else telling you where to give your money to???
Why don't you and your attitude stay home that day. When you need help in the future...call someone who doesn't have workman comp or insurance............leave our Deputies out of it. You Jerk.
Why is this bothering you? Did they draft you? People do not need your approval to do nice things for people. Stay home and get drunk that day. GO JOE BUICE DAY.
Is there NO humanity left in Barnesville?
Can't we put aside all of the petty political agendas and try to show ALL Police officers that we appreciate them for putting their life on the line by catching bullets when criminals shoot them?
If we all don't try real hard to find some compassion and humanity we are all in sad shape.
I say that those people who want to play golf in this benefit have the information provided above to do so;
Everyone else really needs to spend whatever time that is necessary to get a life!
I am ashamed we have such people who live in our community. Whose business is it how an officer who was shot in the line of duty gets paid? For that matter, who should care? As far as I am concerned he can get paid by Spalding County, Worker's Comp and all the proceeds of the tournament because police officers don't get paid enough for what they do anyway! It is just compensation for putting his life on the line !!! I know there will some idiot who jump on this comment -----
You are right. You missed the point of the conversation entirely. It had nothing personal to do with Buice or any officer getting hurt in the line of duty. It had the point of making some people aware of how compensation works when anyone goes down. Probably some people didn't realize he was being compensated at all. I don’t think anyone was discrediting the golf tournament. They were just clarifying some facts. There are people out there that can hardly afford to take care of themselves but will always step up and make a donation for any cause when they think a person needs help. The fact is that no one is losing any pay and those people that really need their money for their own needs should keep it. If people want to contribute to a golf tournament in order to make a donation to Buice in order to show appreciation for his service, that’s fine. I don’t think anything derogatory was meant to ruffle any feathers.
Another wealth envy Obama voter. 'Rich people only pay golf' If somone wants to have a benefit let them have it. It is a noble cause. Meanwhile why don't you just go set on the porch and wait for your stimulus check. What difference does it make if he is getting paid or not? Donate the money.
between short term disability, workmans comp., maybe long term disability, and the paid leave while the investigation is done, i think Mr Buice will be good to go.
the golf tourny is great thing for joe.its a way to let joe know we are so glad he did not get killed.we all know he worked hard the last few years for us.he works hard on the job he has now.if you dont want to play golf @@@DONT PLAY@@ its the bussiness of the people who are getting it together NOT YOURS. i call it a love offering to let him know we his MANY MANY FRIENDS CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well said, Amy.
Too bad this county is so full of ingrates!!! You'd think people would appreciate an officer standing up for the law and having the intestinal fortitude to take a bullet, if necessary to fulfill their job duties. If they were ever in need of such a courageous officer to defend them, I am certain they'd changed their stance! I bet money would be no object to them then!
Thank you Mr. Buice for your many years of service!! I pray for your speedy recovery.
However, it would be wonderful to see the recession-proof members of our community spare an extra $240 dollars per team to also support other people who have suffered ALL their lives...the forgotten victims of violent crimes who are not receiving any benefits or income other than Social Security Disability. I am sure there are people struggling to feed their families because of their inability to work.
As wonderful as everyone says Mr. Buice is, I am sure he would appreciate a donation in his honor to an appropriate charity.
i am going to be honored to play in the joe buice golf tournament, i have no problem knocking on doors for donations to help joe and his family, after all, it could have been myself or one of my family members he could have been protecting when he got shot, who knows, it could have been your family he was protecting!!!!! i have no problem with certain folks asking for handouts for other "charities"! the opportunities are out there for you buice haters to put together your own golf outing for the charity you so chose!!!! what's stopping you?
also, here we go again with the assault rifle thing
