Impact takes it to the streets

Beginning Monday, Impact Christian Ministries will begin serving evening meals at its building at 116 Zebulon St. The kitchen will open at 4:30 p.m. Fridays, plans are to take the dinner to the streets, in keeping with its street ministry mission. That will begin Feb. 19.

Do they have to listen to a sermon before they eat or can they eat and run?

WOW it's great to see at least one Church reaching out to the community in such a fashion! Thank you Walter for running a story that is so uplifting and good for the community, it's like a breath of fresh air! And thank you Mr. Page, you and those in your ministry are doing something truly wonderful!

Good morning, all. I am on the BOD of ICM, Inc. which is located at 116 Zebulon St. in Barnesville. To clarify a point, we are a Christian based organization which means we do " say the blessing " before meals at the center. On Wednesdays and Saturdays there is a brief worship serive prior to serving the meal but one is not required to attend the service in order to get fed. Our door is open to everyone from any walk of life. We welcome all the folks from Barnesville and the surrounding areas to come by and fellowship with us and join us as we provide both physical and spiritual nourishment to anyone in need.

I can easily think of numerous other church organizations
with very active community outreach programs.

Could I please have a better definition of what "taking dinner to the streets" means? Zebulon Street gets pretty busy in the afternoon, and with a daycare center across the road, this could be a public safety issue that needs to be addressed.

The dinners will be taken probably over to the Mill St. area and away from vehicle traffic. That is where ICM got its start, in that general area.

And how many actually take it to the streets as Jesus did? VERY FEW! Most keep it in the temple, as the Pharisees did.

Good morning Barnesville,
Thanks for the comments so far. It has been just awesome serving the Lord in the Barnesville area. About the question on “ taking it to the streets” I started walking these streets about four years ago, went from there to taking biscuits and coffee out, then doing outreach events with live music and preaching, to now having an outreach building and soup kitchen. We never need to loose focus on were we need to be, outside of the four walls of a building. Jesus never said for the lost to come to church but he did tell his church to go out to them.
