Baseball game postponed; soccer fields closed

Tonight's scheduled Region 5AA baseball game at Aldora Field between Lamar County and Macon County has been rescheduled for Monday, March 15 at 6 p.m. due to a wet field and a forecast for more rain today.

Let's support all our High School Sports (Hearld Gazette) Lamar Co track and field placed first on Thursday beating Pike Co and Butts Co. Great Job guys!!

I agree with the earlier post. The soccer teams had two great games against Manchester and absolutely no mention of it here. Can you stop sucking up to baseball and cover all the sports?

soccer sucks. It makes everyone feel as if they are involved or important. Basically it takes little to no skill to be involved.

You should also check out the middle school track team. Those boys are awesome!!!!! Way to go LCMS! Oh and did I mention that they are GREAT students as well!!!

Ain't nobody (yes, that's a double-negative) sucking-up to anybody. Get somebody to cover your team -- a team mom / dad -- and, send in a report to the H-G. That's the way that it's being done by all of the sports, except football. The H-G will print the article, if somebody representing the soccer team makes an effort to get the info to them. Get the facts, before you get diarrhea of the mouth.

Also, the Middle School Baseball team was cancelled for Friday in Byron and re-scheduled for today (Saturday).

Hey 3.2, I know the facts. First of all, your first grade take on humor is pitiful. Secondly, you can email three or four updates and they won't get printed. You don't know me, so you don't know what facts I have.

In defense of the paper and this website, I write the majority of the sports you see and read in both. I email each coach of each sport at each school and ask for help in getting their team covered by sending me scores, stats, particulars, photos, etc. as I cannot make it to every event. Some of my information comes from parents and/or fans of the teams. I cannot write and the paper and this website cannot report what it doesn't know. It has nothing to do with just leaving certain sports out. I am a proud LCCHS alum and support each program and wish for all of them to do well. As for those concerned with soccer, those coaches have been very helpful in sending me info on their games and I submit the stories but sometimes there just isn't room in "this week's edition" to get it all in so sometimes the stories are a week or so old. If and of you have any info on any sport that is not getting coverage and you would like to see it in there, I encourage you to call or email the paper and they will forward that info to me and I will do my best to get it in. Thanks.

I wish the Herald Gazette would monitor some of the idiots who post to this site, namely the ones using crude language. Soccer is a great sport and takes more ability and stamina that most other sports. As a parent of a varsity soccer player, I will more than happy to provide info about the games.

This is absolutely hilarious. If you think that any of the language in these threads are crude, then I have news for you. You don't live in the real world. If you want to hear crude, then just take a walk down society's pathways. Obviously, anything said here, so far, is mild in comparison.

Actually, then maybe I should re-phrase myself, maybe I should say lacks class and education. Anyone with an ounce of class and BIT of education would know not to post things on a public page for all to see. And as an educator I do hear it all.....but still it does not make it right nor acceptable. Maybe in your home or your realm of the world it is, but not mine

whatever. Yea, it involves lots of running. This is the reason that everyone feels equally important or useful as an individual on a team.

Obviously whoever said that soccer sucks has probably never played. It's by far one of the most rigorous as far as training goes. And you have to have a ton of stamina, you have to be quick on your feet, and it's an extremely physical sport. Whereas in sports like baseball, there is hardly any physical contact with other players. I'm a fan of baseball, and I'm definitely not knocking it down, but lets get real. If you have things to say that're rude, keep it to yourself. Have some class.

Let's see... If you can walk and chew- chewing-gum at the same time, and have a foot, then you can go kick a soccer ball. That requires a lot of skill -- right?

On the other hand, if you can hit a baseball coming at you, with movement on it, at 80+ mph, then you have some skills... Well, can you see the disparity in this debate? The defense rests...

Thats right. My 4 year old has been kicking a soccer ball or equivalent for almost 3 years. Run, kick, score. Not defend yourself from line drives, make double plays or a long throw to first, judge flyballs, field ground balls, place hit a ball in the gap to score runs etc. Lots of skill and practice makes a baseball player. Im sure at some level of soccer you have to stand out because not everyone can go pro for soccer. However there is much more skill required to be a good baseball player.

Saying that soccer is walking while kicking the ball is the same as saying baseball is hitting the ball off a tee. There is more constant movement and thought required for soccer than most other sports. When batting, you try to attack a ball in a small (maybe 3 foot square?). Try being a goalie and defending an area that is 24 feet wide and 8 feet high. Goalies deflect shots that are upwards of 60 MPH (pretty fast considering the soe of the ball) and move as much as a curve ball. I do not deny that baseball players have skill, but soccer players have to have it as well. What some teams do with their hands, soccer players do with their feet, and usually just as accurate.

Your defense probably needs a rest after playing what, ten to fifteen minutes an inning? Then you get to go sit down for 10- 15 minutes and watch your team bat? Soccer is two non-stop 45 minute halves, 40 minutes at the high school level. No time to sit and chew/ dip tobacco, just keep running and make a play.

Good try comparing a four year old playing soccer to higher level baseball. Your argument makes sense... prehaps the 4 year old soccer player has as much skill as an older baseball player.

Thought? See ball, kick ball, lol. What kind of thought goes into that... Baseball is 90% mental, and situational. Soccer -- all you do is run east or west, or maybe north or south -- depending on the layout of the field -- and kick the ball. Soccer is for kids that don't have the skill sets to play other sports like football, basketball, & baseball. Tennis even requires more skills, than does soccer. Track, too, for that matter.

You understood the point I was getting at. You know that I wasnt comparing a 4 year old to a professional. A baseball player has to do the things that i mentioned plus more to be in the game. As i stated, my 4 year old knows how to run and kick a ball.


"Its so easy, a caveman could do it" kinda thing.

I would just like to know if anyone running their mouth about how easy soccer is has ever actually played. If so, have you scored? I doubt it. Anyone who has ever actually played at a level higher than recreationally, knows it takes alot more work than walking around kicking a ball.
