Ah man. I was interested until I saw the words "Railroad Street". Until we clean up the trash over there, I think I'll just stick to where I am now. $420 a month isnt worth it.
Isn't giving loans to people who could not afford payments what caused our current housing problem? Are these payments going to stay $420 a month or are they going to skyrocket as interest rates continue to rise? Are the residents going to care for their new homes or just trash them like they have in the past?
I just hope that "qualifying" means that they have had a steady job for a few years and that they have no criminal record.
Like we don't already have ENOUGH of these 'developments' for blacks around here?
Where's the ones for the WHITES???
I know some say that these places are not ONLY for blacks, but whites don't want to be in with the trashy crowds that live in these places.
''I just hope that "qualifying" means that they have had a steady job for a few years and that they have no criminal record.''
Yep, true. But it's never been this way, why should they start now? I can't for the life of me see WHY the gov't would let people live in these places when they KNOW they are going to be trashed!!
''People are born black not made are turned black after birth,Please get over it ''
YOu haven't seen most of the white boys around here, heh??
How are city officials lining their pockets with yet another "LET'S HELP BARNESVILLE" scheme? This place whould vacate if 60 minutes were called in to investigate. Even the Communese left town.
It just amazes me as to what the projects are around town that better a few city officials.
I would like this town except for what is being diplayed with this article. Trashy, uneducated racist people. This community will never move forward with this kind of support.
I hate living in Barnesville these people are so racist, try hard to move forward black people they've already labeled you all as nothing prove them wrong!!
I don't think anyone would stop you from moving into these places because you were white. just meet the criteria and they will be glad to sell you a place after all the only color worth a damn in business is green
it is truley a shame,,all the hatrid that comes out when people can hide behind the words here,,I am white, and tired of all of these hateful words,,it sometimes make me ashamed to even live in this county,,,wake up people.
Some comments may be a little harsh yet true.
HOWEVER, there are many many black people that dont want any part of Railroad, Ice, washington and all those streets in that area because it is what it is. Sure, it is 100% black over there but a lot of bad things go on in that area. The ones that live over there either take part in rediculous activity, cant afford to move, or just too stupid and ignorant to care.
If i was given a house i would rent it out, but there is no way i would invest my money in a piece of property over in that area.
I have relatives that stay in the area. I have to disagree with your comment "The ones that live over there either take part in ridiculous activity, cant afford to move, or just too stupid and ignorant to care" (I Spelled ridiculous correctly...you can't spell) This is not true at all. My family is one of the richest "Black" families in Barnesville/Lamar county they are not stupid, they are any but broke, and they care very much so. However, it's their home and when you have lived somewhere for over 60 years why would you want to move? So next time choose your words correctly! BUSTER!
This was a gift from Gov. Sonny when he was buying votes......I mean running for re-election. It's always different when republicans do it. In spite of his motives and the fact that he was giving away money that could have surly been better spent, I hope for success here. And success breeds success. It is a shame Sonny decided the "Peach Care For Kids" program was too expensive and gave back federal funds so the state wouldn't have have to match them. No new applications were accepted from low and middle income working families seeking affordable health care for their children. How does Sonny do it?
They are in a rut and dont want anything better. You cant tell me that the area over there is anywhere someone would choose to live unless that is all they ever want. They dont want to move. You are full of it. Im calling BS. There is nothing about that area that would make anyone strive to live over there. You, as a black person, are you embarrassed to see all that foolishness go on in that area?
Be honest now.
If you tell the truth you will say yes. The majority of those people are embarrassing. (Just as are white people in certain areas of barnesville. Johnson st, trailer parks, aldora area, etc.) With this being said, there is no way i would buy a house in that white trash neighborhood either. That is embarrassing to me.
It's comming close to election time. Even tho Barnesville mayor and council doesn't haven't any say so in ANY decisions made in this community, I would encourage new canidates to run for office and change the way things are done. One person making decisions, right or wrong, is still called micro-management. Or for lack of better words, dictatorship.
For the record. My folks stay on Jackson and first streets. I said surrounding areas. Have you been down Jackson St? or First St? All the houses are not in Bad shape! GET REAL! You are talking about something you know nothing about! You definitely need to get a darn clue. Yes, I would say that I want more for the people in Barnesville. However, I will not look down on anyone. Never say where you will not stay. GOD doesn't like ugly. Nowadays it's the people with the 300,000 dollars houses that are losing them. Maybe you should look at your fiances. And Just because someone has money doesn't mean they need to live in a certain area! Most older people... like my relatives are content. Just take a ride in the area one day and think out the box.
Also, I'm embarrassed to see what goes on anywhere in barnesville- that is negative. I hate that you have to single out certain groups or certain people. When was the last time you fed a child that was hungry or purchased school clothes for a child in need. You really need to sit down and think about somethings if you have money- then use it for something positive. I'am a very educated person- I hold a masters degree. I like nice things and I buy them. However, I will not look down on someone else. MAKE A DIFFERENCE in our community. Lets put race aside. For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son. Also, remember; For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36 REMEMBER GOD IS ALWAYS WATCHING! I enjoyed this convo and I'm glad we could talk like mature adults.
I see where you are coming from. I have not always lived in a nice house like I'm in now. I hated living around other people that are sorry though. Everyone had the same opportunity as I did. Im not even 30 yrs old yet, and I have more than most all of my family does. I took the challenge of doing something with my life. I have cousins that wash houses and haul scrap metal off for beer and cigarette money. They are embarrassing to me. They are idiots. The bible also talks about a man that dont work shouldnt eat. I get tired of helping others that dont want to help themselves. People dont have to make 80k a year to carry themselves nice. I did well for myself well when I worked through a temp service for $8 hr. I tried to make my rental house appealing because I had to live there. I made sure there was pinestraw out, grass in the front yard, not junk everywhere, etc. Even though it wasnt mine, i was living there and that represents ME! Some people dont look at it the same way. Whatever.

Oh, I'm black by the way. Thanks for playing though.
