You just can't make this stuff up.

Georgia Congressman Hank Johnson (he took Cynthia McKinney's spot) tells a Navy Admiral he is afraid too many people on the island of Guam may cause it to capsize.

It’s difficult to believe that an individual that has climbed to a level of representing the people as a United States congressman can be ignorant. If so, that’s also a direct reflection on the people that elected him indicating they must be equally ignorant.

I have watched this video and Johnson definitely appears to be having difficulty communicating his message. The admiral demonstrated true professionalism by his reply and by not briefly needing to excuse himself from the room.

Everyone is having fun with this Guam capsizing comment. And as always, when in the public eye, you wear a big target. However, Johnson should be allowed to explain his reasoning for making such a comment. Those people that elected him deserve that. And if it is determined that he believes islands float on the oceans like ice bergs, then it might be worth the time to remove him from the position he occupies.

I can't believe READERS and LISTENERS are that dumb. I am appalled. I listened and did not take his words about Guam tipping over literally. Wake up America, think for yourselves. The media has done too good a job of having us think so simply. And he apologized too...that's even worse.

Johnson’s reply and reasoning.

I'm not fond of liberals and the more we get out of Washington the better, but I'm also not real fond of cheap shots either; even when they are well deserved.

Johnsons reasoning was understandable. I can't say it was what is real, but it was still reasonable.

You've got to be kidding me. I simply refuse to believe that the congressman has to explain that he was using metaphoric language. Now I am beginning to understand why it is becoming more and more difficult for America to compete in education on the Worldwide level. If everything someone says needs to be broken down into the simplest language in order for us to understand....God help us.. We are truly sinking deeper into a bottomless pit.

Why? Obama is president. Pelosi is speaker of the house. And lots of people voted for them. They are ALL the biggest idiots I know. So why does it surprise me that some representative said he was afraid an island might capsize? It doesn't in the least.

I have watched the video several times and there is NO WAY he was speaking metaphorically. He seemed to be having trouble expressing his words and obviously was in over his head. A person who speaks in metaphors does so fluently....don't think he's got the "smarts" for speaking metaphorically.....

I have put some serious thought into this possible catastrophic event of Guam capsizing. I believe I have found a workable answer. We need to use the even-odd number system that we use when we have lawn watering restrictions. On your specified day, you MUST walk six inches off the ground. It is the only way we can save the island.

I think Obama should issue everyone on the island those little floaties that fit around one's arm. That way the people are prepared if the island flips over.

Except the ones in the middle of the island. Therefore, Obama need to have the Navy patrole the island with submarines so when the island flips over, the submarines can pick up the people caught in the middle. Or they can make everbody live on the coast.

NASA could train by building a city on the bottom of the island. That way wen the island flips over, the city would already be there.

It is blatantly obvious that he meant exactly what he was saying. He literally meant the island would "tip over" as he even made the motion with his hands as he was stating this. To try to make a claim later that it was not meant this way is an insult to the intelligence of the average person. Besides,it is apparent he was having difficulty explaining the basics, I highly doubt he was capable of suddenly being metaphoric.

Come on now; are you really that stupid or are you trying to push buttons. 9/11 happened after Bush took office and I don’t blame anyone for that. It was a terrorist act. It did put light on terrorism in this country. Since that time we’ve had none. But I think that will change because Obama is weak and feels that an apology, a hug, a kiss, and perhaps a bow will “tame” the savage beast.

Better be prepared.

islands are protected from flipping over by strict international regulations. violations of these protective regulations could result in a class-action lawsuit by the inhabitants. our congressman realizes this and wants only to ensure that our country is clear of all possible litigation surrounding this international safety violation.

You are wrong if you think there has been no terrorism on US soil since 9/11. In fact, there have been many incidents of terror, the most recent that I can recall off-hand being: 1) Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, who attempted to ignite a bomb on a plane bound for Detroit. It's a good thing he was too stupid to do it correctly or those passengers would be dead. Remember, he actually ignited the thing and burned himself because he messed up; 2) a Christian militia group called Hutaree in Southern Michigan was planning to kill a police officer and then blow up all the participants at his funeral. Please try to educate yourself on what's happening in your own country so that you can make informed decisions and comments.
