Sophomore Jake Shockley had three hits including a seventh inning triple from which he later scored the game tying run for the Diamond Trojans as they scored a come from behind, 7-6, win over Monticello Thursday at Aldora Field.
With both teams suffering the spring break blahs, Lamar County outlasted Monticello, 7-6, in non-region, high school baseball action at Aldora Field Thursday.

The Trojans had better count their blessings in the Monticello Game. They were very fortunate to get the 'W'. The only reason that they were able to win was because Monticello played a miserable game, themselves.
However, Trent Nix should be commended for a 'clutch' hit with 2-outs, and a runner on 2nd, & the game tied at 6-all in the bottom of the 7th inning, that won the game for LC. Trent stepped-up to the occasion. Go get-em', TRENT!!!
The amount of infield errors, as of late, is simply mind-boggling. The Trojans are averaging about 5 per game. We seem to have a few players that are lazy, and not focused on the task at hand... Just fielding a routine ground ball has become an adventure. They just seem to be content to being out there taking up space.
There's still a lot left in the season for this team to accomplish, however. They have a chance to have a 20-win regular season record, and finish as runners-up in the region to Pike Co. (Pike pretty much has it locked-up, fwiw), providing they refocus, and TCOB.
If they can finish as runners-up in the region, then they will be able to host the 3rd place team from Region 8-AA @ Aldora Field in the 1st round of the state playoffs. And, if they can win that series (the best 2-out of 3-games) in the first round, then they would advance to the Sweet 16.
This team -- which has 8 seniors -- is very capable of accomplishing these goals, but they had better step it up, if they want to be remembered as one of the better teams to play for Lamar Co.
And, it all starts next week with consecutive games against Crawford Co., Macon Co., & Washington Co. We're about to find out what they're made of pretty soon...
