Sheriff Larry Waller announced today that a total of 126 speeding tickets dating from August 2008 through February 2, 2009 have to be dismissed.

Whoa wait...100 tickets was issued in January 2009 when Waller got in office. While Buice was in office 26 was written in 4 months. Just let that sink in for a little bit.

Might want to through in there that this only applies to tickets from the Sheriff's Department....sorry folks those that got tickets from the cities dont get your money back.

Something similar happened when Larry was in office years ago. Larry had people not certified to use RADAR giving out tickets, but that was a different era. Back then Larry didn't announce things like this. He swept them under the rug.

This is chance to make someone else look bad for a similar mistake, so it is news.

Looks like Sheriff Waller has his guys out working an dactually doing something about the speeders. That's a nice change from the last Sheriff.

This is a political move at the expense of lost revenue.
I guess this is the way it's going to be as long as Buice and Waller are competing for the same power.

Are they still competing? Perhaps I am simply uninformed, but I thought that the election was over in November. I don't think that anyone is competing anymore except the people of this forum. Jeez....people the election is over, Waller is sheriff. Like it or not--and life would be a whole lot easier and nicer if we all just backed our Sheriff and our new president Obama and try to unite not only as a county but as a country as well.

Lets see 26 from august to september, I guess its easy to see how little you have to obey the law during a heated election. Now I know when I can act the fool and not have to worry about a thing.

I agree that now is what takes president. Most the tickets without a doubt came from I75 so loss of revenue could be minimual.
If you think these two are not already looking at the 2012 election your kidding yourself.

it is déjà vu and I did not perceive the article as trying to make Buice look bad, though it was his fault that the equipment was not certified. It should have been, but obviously his deputies weren't writing many speeding tickets...26 tickets in 5 months is little more than 1 speeding violation a week. That being said, I hardly think that the article was done to hurt Buice or make him look bad.

and waller also doesnt need buices help to look bad. they are both seriously defective and most of us know it. thats why the vote was 50-50.

wallers problem besides never being at the office is the people he hires to run things. buices problem was the people he fired and how he ran things to much. if we could mix buices honesty with wallers knowledge of what he should do but doesnt do we would have a top sheriff. as it is we have a 50-50 choice.

From the law mans' perspective, ANALYSE THIS. Waller had to send out letters to people the last time he was in office for tickets written by officers withiout radar certification. This shows how earger they are to write speeding tickets. Waller didn't make sure they were doing things from the LAW perspective or there would not be 100 tickets written illegally.
Sabotage does often have a way of backfiring doesn't it?

Larry stop trying to operate on your past family connections and actually start doing your job as sheriff. Stop blaming the previous admisistration for mistakes made by you.
You are the one responsible for what YOUR staff does. Give us a break,
How is it that YOU are teaching at Gordon college and listed on the Gordon website as a FULL TIME STAFF INSTRUCTOR? GREED is the only explanation.
You are obviously not as dedicated to the Lamar county residents as you are to making money.

OK guys. I read all these comments and finely felt I should comment. Not all the radars were not certified. Some, as in my husband's car, were up to par. I know since Waller has took office, my husband has a lot less stress. As do most of the deputies. They actually enjoy going to work now. They are not affraid of losing their job or having to see any of the "brass". Don't get me wrong, my hubby liked Joe as a person. I personally liked him also. He kept his word with concerns to my husband. I have only met Waller once but so far he has treated my husband fairly. These deputies are out patrolling our streets to make them SAFE. If you are going to complain about a speeding ticket, guess what, YOU were breaking the law. These tickets were for 15+ over the speed limit. If you weren't speeding, you wouldn't have got pulled over. Just saying.

Louie, if this was a political move, were you someone else's campaign advisor? I know Waller well enough to know he would not take revenue from this county, as it is very low right now, for political purposes. I think he did it because it was the right thing to do. The LAW, remember?

I am glad Larry did the right thing. At least he realized there was a problem and fixed it. Just goes to show how much "fixing" is going on at the SO. I hear Joe left the place in a mess...dont want to give out too much detail though.

How nice of the "Witnessing Christian" to discover this egregious miscarriage of justice.

But wait, haven't we been here before?

Yep, I still remember the "hang dog look" of the "Witnessing Christian" as he tried to explain to WAGA TV how his administration was GUILTY OF THE VERY SAME THING! If memory serves, his "explanation" was along the lines of "we do the best we can" when hiring folks.

Strangely, there was no mention of how much oversight "Witnessing Christian" was doing over these people he had done his best to hire.

But it is good to know we have someone that will spend his time reviewing his predecessor's performance.

Gonna be a long four years folks.

I fail to see what all the fuss is about. Sheriff Waller found a problem and corrected it. If he would have over looked it everyone would be mad about that. Once the problem was discovered the right thing to do was to dismiss any citations that were issued as a result of the radar device. What did you people want him to do, ignore the problem and pretend that it never happened? I’m sorry if this makes Buice or anyone else look bad, but the problem still had to be corrected. I am thankful that Sheriff Waller pays enough attention to his officers and their equipment to have caught this problem. And I am just as thankful that he is honest enough to drop the faulty citations.

I did not read anywhere that Larry even mentioned Buice's name. Looks to me like you are really eager to defend Buice. Before you slander someone's Christian Witness, have you examined your witness? I disagree, I didn't think the past four years would ever end. to 11.1, I don't know how you can use Buice and honesty in the same sentence.

I'm sure the people who got the tickets were the ones responsible for making this problem public. After all who wouldn't question the radar? I gues the first few tickets were not feeling any reason to question them? 100 tickets in a month and "not all the radars" were problem means only certain deputies were out there writing these tickets.(NOT ALL OF THEM) Probably the ones that were NOT IN USE last year. Waller's office only did what they had to do to the tickets. Why don't you people leave the past administration out of all of this? Get on with your jobs.
It is sad that the county finances must depend on writing speeding tickets to pay the salaries of employees and other expenses.

You obviously have never attended Gordon, and it hardly spits out degrees. Gorden has many exemplary programs and outstanding teacher, Larry Waller being among them. Gordons teacher education program as well as its Nursing program are among the best in the state.

To #15; Waller is not a full time instructor. He is a part time instructor. Go to www.gdn.edu/faculty and you will not find his name there. He's listed under part time faculty. Part time can mean he teaches only one class. There is nothing wrong with anyone trying to better their income through extra work.

To #24, you obviously have not gotten a degree there. I have, and am currently attending Gordon again, and if you expect to get a degree there you have to work for it. What you put into it is what you get out of it.

By the way, quit hiding behind 'anonymous'. If you're gonna say something negative, be bold and show yourself.

#27 why would you think Waller is paying anyone on these blogs. I don't work at the sheriff's office or in any county office. I do however use my own computer. I think it is a shame when a few people are so determined to make him look bad - even to the point they lie and make things up. Maybe some fictional writing might be a good idea for some to put their silly rumors and allegations into.

Now I understand people when they have political difference and they decide to fight through ad homonym attacks (that means a personal attack if the word is to big for you to comprehend---and comprehend means understanding a concept or a statement. But as an Alumni of Gordon College and a person who now teaches at a D-1 University (Eastern Michigan University0 I would not be in the job that I hold now if it where not for the grounded education and faculty support that I received from this institution. So stick with the ad homonym attacks (refer to the definition above if you have forgotten the meaning and leave the College out of it.
