The many nations helping Haiti recover from the devastating earthquake that struck there have set up their own military compounds and fly their flags at the entrances.

France's tricolor, Britain's Union Jack and even Croatia's coat of arms flap in the breeze.

Agree completely. After 9/11 many Canadian organizations came down to assist with clean up. Could you imagine what our feelings would have been had they thrown up a bunch of Canadian flags. Our flags definitely shouldnt be flown in another country like that. Flags symbolize power.

I have difficulty with a president that will not salute our flag or national anthem. I question his loyality to our country, and I feel we would be better if he politely stepped down,not kicking and screaming such as R. Nixon did.

Stop being so ignorant. That was in 2007 when saluting was optional, and even our military people were not supposed to salute. When obama grew up, like other people from my age group, we were taught to stand at attention during the national anthem and remove any hats.

The protocol was changed in 2008, but there are many pictures of him saluting the flag during the anthem both before and after the protocol change and befofe and after that event.

There is another picture where Bush holds his hand down real low, around his belly button or lower. Why don't you make a big deal out of that one?

You are the one that should study up and as you say "Stop being so ignorant."

I got news for you. I went into the military in 1972 and have beed connected with the military ever since up to this day. Protocol has NOT changed.

When the National Anthem is heard, you stop, face the flag, come to attention and salute. If the flag cannot be seen, you face the direction of the music and come to attention and salute. The same is true when the flag is lowered during the retreat ceremony and retreat is played. A civilian salute would be standing at attention paying honors to the flag and what it stands for and by placing your right hand over your heart.

That is one of the problems with people in this country today. To many don't care or don't know about it and make excuses for WRONG DOING!

If you were an American in Haiti after such devastation and looking for assistance from your country men and women - the obvious thing you would look for is your country’s flag.

To be a real American, you have to hate anyone and try to run anyone off who disagrees with you. Intolerance, chest beating, and demeaning others for expressing a difference in opinion and forcing our will on others is what made our country great.

It seems to me the only reason that people are joining the armed forces today is to get the money and benefits. But when it comes to defending our country they want to complain. What is up with that? If you join the armed forces then when you are called up for duty then shut your lips and go do what you signed up to do. Don't whine about serving your country!

It is a crying shame, some of you do not have the feelings of pride in your country.You naysayers have the priviledge of running your mouth about the country that our men and women put on a uniform, and walk into hell for it.A lot of blood has been spilt so you can sleep at night, and be antiamerican with no fear from the gov.(at least for now, before the regeme in washington changes so much.) Our STARS AND BARS have flown all over the world, and have freed millions of people from governments that had visions of running the world and would shut you up hard, if you run your mouth in a negative way about them in any shape form or fashion, so consider yourself lucky to live in this country, and not in one where people come up missing if they do not tow the party line. In China, they bill the family for the bullet they use on their family members. There has never been a country in history that has promoted freedom more than the U.S.A. Put out more food to anyone that needs it. Even our enemies, like the guy that had a Binloden shirt on as we were pulling him from beneath the rubble from a disaster in the Philippines, or did you watch american idle and missed it on the idiot tube. Just remember when you see UNICEF and some of the relief agencies,The bags of food they hand out do not say U.S.A. on it, but most of the donations are raised in my country. If we kept all of the countries we have bailed out from famin and war we would own the world insted of helping and leaving them in better shape than they were to begin with. When you people finally run this country in the ground, what country will help us, and when they are finished go home and give it back to us. If you can think of any other place that is better than this one, please feel free to visit for about a hundred years, and take the rest of your family. You must think they will be much better off.

Federal Judge Barbara Crabb canceled the "National Day of Prayer", not Obama. In fact, Obama and his team were defendants in the case arguing FOR the day of prayer. A group of Atheist had the day canceled.

Besides, since when do "Christians" need a day to be reminded to pray? Seems pointless to begin with.

Just try to actually read the news next time before commenting on stuff when you have no idea whats going on.

I can agree with that. Now on a seperate note, I want the U.S Government out of my life. They have their place here and dont need to continue to push me to do things that I dont want to do. Dont tell me what I can eat or what kind of oil i can cook with. Dont tell me what kind of ammunition i can have for my guns. Dont tell me what kind of heath insurance i have to have. Dont tell me where i have to invest my retirement. Let me make decisions for myself. I dont need the govnts help. I can manage things fine on my own. There are many people in the world that are lazy and they want the govnt to handle things for them. Im not one of them.
They have a role that they need to play and nothing more. The american people need to take responsibility for their actions and the govnt needs to get the heck out of the way and let the system run itself.

I am a veteran of the Vietnam era. I love my country and consider myself as winning the lottery of life by being born a natural citizen of this fine country. This blessing has a tremendous economical advantage most don’t understand. At the same time, I am well aware of the dangers, and small mindedness of zealous nationalism. I feel the same way toward religious fanaticism. It is shear ignorance and arrogance to say that our way is the only way or the best way especially if you have never known any other way. When I wittiness a pious individual proclaim their faith as the only true religion I know then they have never been part of any other spiritual belief system. When I hear someone say God bless America, I think to myself, “Why stop there”. Is your understanding of theology and nationalism so one-dimensional that your God would actually be so discriminatory toward all humanity?

The decision was made out of respect to Hati, not to appear as conquerors. When the earthquake struck, America sent what was necessary to save lives and sustain life. Sorry that wasn't good enough for some of you. I doubt if God cares what color piece of cloth you salute or don't salute.

The judge declared it unconstitutional! HE decided not to have a public day of prayer at the white house. You do the research better next time. He could still hold it up there but chooses not to.

You know, sometimes it's best to do the right thing just because it's the right thing, and not for the recognition it will bring you.
We know what a great and powerful nation we are. Must we push it into everyone's faces?
And by the way, I have a child out to sea, serving aboard the U.S.S. LaBoon right this minute. My flesh and blood is representing this country so I don't need to be spoken to about my patriotism or perceived lack thereof.

Last year, the White House did not hold a service at the White House in conjunction with the National Day of Prayer, as President George W. Bush had; the Los Angeles Times described the Bush-era event as "an ecumenical service in the East Room, a big public endorsement of evangelical Christians."

Yesterday, a rumor that the president had "canceled" the National Day of Prayer, tied to that decision from last year, "went viral" online, according to the Examiner.

"It goes beyond mere 'acknowledgment' of religion because its sole purpose is to encourage all citizens to engage in prayer, an inherently religious exercise that serves no secular function in this context," wrote Judge Barbara Crabb, who said the Day of Prayer violates the First Amendment's establishment clause, which bans the creation of a "law respecting an establishment of religion" in the Constitution.

The original poster stated that Obama canceled the National Day of Prayer, which is still false, the Judge did. So the research was correct dummy.

It really dose'nt matter what President Obama does he will never be liked by a lot of americans simply because of his race. He has tried to fix some of the mess that the former President has left behind, but still gets no credit. Obama will be allright. He is a good President and will prevail regardless. God bless him and his family. Too bad if you dislike him he is and will be our Commander and Chief for several mor years. Respect it and shut up about it......Looser

Dear Liberal Pukes (my title for you),

......And our forefathers are turning in their graves. What happened to tradition? If a leader of a country that needs our help wants to be ungrateful and call it a threatening sign for us to show our own flag on our installation, then we should take our money and go home. Do not bite the hand that feeds you. Since when does this country bow down to another??? When should it ever be right for a leader of this country to not salute the flag of this country?????? Who do you think put you in such a highly respected position. RESPECT for ourselves should be forefront. We have PC'd (politically corrected) ourselves to death. You can call it chest pounding. You can call it uneducated. The great men who brought you the freedom you enjoy today call it tradition. Look around you. Are things going like you thought they would???? We were once a much greater nation than we are today. We accomplished this by holding onto our forefathers' traditions. By forcing us to give up those traditions, look what you have done to our great nation. It is your fault alone for believing in a handout and letting leaders such as these take the helm. Leaders who think they have a better idea than over 200 years of great men. I know they don't teach you much history in schools these days. You'd better find a place to study history though, or you too will be destined to repeat it.
Calling someone uneducated may make you feel better but it does not make you more intelligent than that person. Having just entered into an institute of higher education at the age of 37, I see for myself how much you are told what you should and should not think by the masses here. Now I know why most people, coming out of these institutions, call our great country a democracy instead of the Republic that it is. Thank goodness the first 37 years at the school of hard knocks taught me to think for myself. Books are a great source of knowledge. With them I was able to gain a ranking in the top 20 out of 2000 students back in high school.(uneducated....phhht) Even I know it is hard work and sweat that built this country. How many academic geniuses do you know that have common sense??? Not many. So be progressive, lay down your muskets for whatever you can get from your government at the price of your countrymen. Throw away 250+ years of tradition in the name of being "more civilized", BUT don't come crying to those of us who believe in the ideals that built this great nation. While we are a forgiving people and will not harm you for your lack ability to think for yourselves, neither will we save you when your way of thinking runs our great nation into the ground.
